Three Workers Fired After Hamburger Spat Bonner Deputy Complained That Teen Spit Into Sandwich

Three employees at the Burger King fast-food restaurant in Sandpoint have been fired after a Bonner County sheriff's deputy saw one of them spit into his sandwich and scoop up french fries off the floor. One of the employees was a teenager who had previously been arrested by Deputy John Lunde, said restaurant owner Scott Hatter. The employee, who was not identified, apparently was seeking revenge. The restaurant conducted an investigation and fired the employee and two others who participated in the incident as soon as the deputy's complaint was confirmed, Hatter said.

City Given Until Dec. 2 To Kill Permit Judge Gives City Three Weeks To Rescind Building Permit For Sanders Beach Home

The City of Coeur d'Alene has until next month to rescind a building permit issued illegally for a home on Sanders Beach, a district judge ruled Thursday. But boulders placed on the beach can stay - for now. The judge said it wasn't his job to order them removed. "I don't think it was part of what I was asked to do," First District Judge Gary Haman said. Haman ruled last month that a footings and foundation permit issued to Joe Chapman violated a long-standing prohibition on buildings south of East Lakeshore Drive and ordered the city to rescind the permit.

Teenager Charged With Threatening Woman With Ax Police Say Cda Man Also Charged At Them With A Knife

A Coeur d'Alene teenager was being held Monday on charges that he stood over his girlfriend, raised an ax and threatened to kill her before briefly holding police at bay. Steven J. Johnson, 19, also allegedly ran at police with a knife. Officers used pepper spray to thwart Johnson's advance and eventually talked him into surrendering, according to a police report.

Nic Cleared In Sick Building Case Jury Takes 90 Minutes To Decide That College Wasn’t Negligent

North Idaho College attorney Michael Ramsden argued Friday that sick building hysteria contributed to a former student's ailments, not noxious gases and chemicals. A nine-woman, three-man jury apparently agreed and found the college was not negligent for failing to warn former NIC business student Sharon Foster, 59, about potential hazards in the Hedlund Building.

Coeur D’Alene Clerks Shortchanged, Police Say Two Charged With Exchanging Rolls Of Dimes Filled With Pennies

Two men were being held Tuesday on charges they shortchanged two businesses while trading rolled coins for cash. Che T. Bernhardt, 27, of Athol, Idaho, also was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on charges of burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property and petty theft. Scott A. Charles, 23, of Coeur d'Alene, was arrested for burglary and a warrant charging him with failing to appear in court on a driving offense.

Residents Want Solutions To Crime Spree Harrison-Area People Fed Up With Two-Week String Of Thefts

Dozens of people fed up with the sheriff's department and a rise in crime on the lake's east side gathered Monday night to brainstorm solutions. Tens of thousands of dollars have been stolen during the past two weeks from people who live along Highway 97 near Harrison. At least 10 home and car burglaries have been reported during that period from Carlin Bay to Harrison, according to Kootenai County sheriff's reports.

Fireworks Fly For Dismissed Hayden Chief Citizens Group, Volunteers Present Letter Demanding Reinstatement

Embers stirred by the dismissal of two Hayden Lake Fire Protection District employees this month - including the chief - had fire commissioners facing an inferno Wednesday night. A citizens group that includes several volunteer firefighters presented fire commissioners with a letter signed by 325 people demanding that Wayne Syth be reinstated as the department's chief.

Judge Drops Charge Stemming From Chemical Reaction In Home Man Remains Accused Of Possessing Equipment Commonly Used To Cook Methamphetamine

There's not enough evidence to try a Hayden man for felony injury to a child resulting from a chemical reaction that sent a 15-year-old girl to the hospital, a judge ruled Friday. Instead, 1st District Magistrate Debra Heise decided Kevin Morriston will stand trial on a charge that he possessed ingredients and equipment commonly used to cook methamphetamine.
