City High Schools Double Pleasure

It wasn't long ago when Coeur d'Alene High School baseball teams were thankful Region I received two state tournament berths. That was the only way a team other than Lewiston qualified for state - especially during the reign of late Bengals coach Dwight Church. To Coeur d'Alene's credit, it was the lone team to accompany Lewiston to state during the two-berth years.

Kellogg Promotes Kerfoot To Head Football Coach

Kellogg High officials won't have to order a name plate for the office door of the new head football coach. The one used by the head boys basketball coach will suffice. Wildcats basketball coach Tony Kerfoot will pull double duty. He will be recommended to the school board Monday to replace Shawn Amos. Amos resigned recently to take the head football job at Coeur d'Alene. Kerfoot, 38, has served as head basketball coach the past two years while also assisting Amos.

Lake City Earns Soccer Title

The Lake City High boys soccer team needed a tie in its final league match Monday to capture the North Idaho Soccer League championship. Despite the fact Lake City and Sandpoint entered the match undefeated, Sandpoint needed a victory to win the crown outright. It ended in a 2-2 tie. Advantage Lake City.

What's happened to the Post Falls High boys track team? It's been a strange year for coach Wade Quesnell. First the Trojans lost returning sprinter and relay participant Adam Fehling before the season started.

Cda’s Ross Keys Sweep Of Lewiston

Scott Ross couldn't ever remember beating Lewiston. The Coeur d'Alene High catcher, who pitches out of necessity, has actually been the Vikings' most steady starting pitcher this spring. He handcuffed the perennially powerful Lewiston Bengals to complete a rare Vikings sweep in an Inland Empire League doubleheader Tuesday.

Cda, Lake City Have To Try Again

It rained so much Saturday afternoon that they could have held a fishing derby along with the baseball game at Coeur d'Alene High School. After three rain delays, umpires charitably ended the futile efforts to play just one Inland Empire League game, let alone hopes of completing a doubleheader.

Trojans Unfazed By Pertussis Scare

All things considered, Wednesday turned out to be a good day for the Post Falls High boys and girls track teams. The Trojans boys swept a pair of Inland Empire League dual meets, topping Coeur d'Alene 88-57 and slipping past Sandpoint 75-71 at the Post Falls track.

Idaho High School Activities Association Adds Fifth Classification

In a state in which many believe there already are too many high school classifications, officials voted 8-4 Wednesday to add a fifth division. The A-5 classification will be added beginning in 1998-99, Idaho High School Activities Association executive director Bill Young announced.

Lakeside Star Claims A-4 Honor

The Lakeside High boys basketball team's state championship season has earned statewide honors. Andrew Twiss of the Knights was named A-4 Player of the Year today by the Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise. Coaches vote for the honor. Twiss, 6-foot-5 junior post, averaged 18 points and nine rebounds per game to lead Lakeside (22-1) to the state championship.

Lake City’s Herbert Collects Honors

The postseason honors are rolling in for Lake City basketball standout Lindsay Herbert. In the past week Herbert has been named the Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year for Idaho. She was also named to the A-1 all-state first team published last weekend by The Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise.

Viks Trim Trojans In Iel Opener

Idaho high schools Perhaps the best news Tuesday afternoon during an Inland Empire League baseball opener regarded the weather. Playing under sunny skies and moderately warm temperatures, Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls played predictably inconsistent baseball, typical of early season games.
