College baseball notes: Pac-12 singles out Cougs’ Joe Pistorese

PULLMAN – Joe Pistorese’s dominant pitching stretch came to an end last week when then No. 10 Oregon dinged him for eight runs over four innings. However, the pitcher earned just four of those runs thanks to a pair of errors as the stellar defense that had previously given him the advantage failed. The off-color outing diminished but could not foil what has been a remarkable April for the lefty. He was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week last week for his complete game effort in WSU’s 4-1 win over No. 5 Oregon State, in which he allowed the Beavers just four hits in nine innings.

Reserves give strong showing at WSU scrimmage

PULLMAN – Saturday’s practice, the first scrimmage of spring, may have been “just kind of another day” for Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday, whose easy efficiency was reminiscent of the team’s previous 10 practices. But it was another kind of day entirely for WSU’s backups and reserves who showed why the talent at hand makes Halliday say this is “head and shoulders above any spring that I’ve been a part of since I’ve been here.”

WSU spring football: O-line features battling centers

PULLMAN – A 6-foot-4, 230-pound giant stuck out his mitt, invited Connor Halliday to a round of golf and suddenly transferring to Ferris High School from familiar Lewis and Clark wasn’t quite as intimidating for the toothpick-thin quarterback. Elliott Bosch had Halliday’s back from then on. The pair both went to Washington State and last season the emerging gunslinger never touched a ball unless Bosch snapped it to him.
