College baseball: Cougars overcome rough start to season

PULLMAN – Less than a week after being involved in a three-car accident that sent him to Pullman Regional Hospital, Washington State baseball coach Donnie Marbut is back in the dugout with the Cougars. Marbut was home with an illness on Thursday prior to WSU’s game against San Jose State and originally intended to miss batting practice, heading to the game less than an hour before the first pitch.

Cougars get visit from Jason Gesser

PULLMAN – The past and future of the Washington State football program collided during Tuesday’s spring practice. Under the shadow of the daunting but not yet completed Football Operations Building former WSU quarterback Jason Gesser watched the young Cougars practice. “It’s awesome,” Gesser said of WSU’s contribution to college football’s facilities revolution. “It’s a different feel with all the construction going up, obviously the new press box and the new football facility there. It’s a different feel from the inside (of Martin Stadium), you know? But it’s a cool feeling at the same time.”

Ernie Kent is new WSU men’s basketball coach

Bill Moos enjoyed hiring Ernie Kent so much that he decided to do it again. Kent has been hired by Washington State athletic director Moos as the school’s new men’s basketball coach. Kent was signed to a five-year rollover contract.

Broncos sweeten contract, keep Rice

Boise State men’s basketball coach Leon Rice will not be Washington State’s next coach. Rice will receive a $100,000 salary increase as past of an agreement to revisions on his current contract, BSU athletic director Mark Coyle announced on Saturday.

PULLMAN – Do the dishes, take out the trash, fold the laundry and don’t forget to seal the edge against some of the biggest, meanest defensive ends in the country. Offensive lineman Joe Dahl’s list of chores is a little more demanding than most, but with Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday as a roommate he better not forget any, especially that last one.

PULLMAN – Boise State men’s basketball coach Leon Rice has interviewed for the vacant coaching position at Washington State, The Spokesman-Review has learned. The interview was conducted earlier this week. Rice was out of the office on Wednesday.
