Cougars go cold in Seattle, lose to UW

SEATTLE – Only DaVonte Lacy could match Washington’s efficiency on Friday night. But he couldn’t keep up with the Huskies’ pack by himself and the UW cruised to a 72-49 victory in front of 7,647 fans in the rivalry rematch. The Cougars were held without a field goal over the game’s final 13:04. In that time, Washington extended its lead from 53-44 to the final 23-point margin.

UW coach Lorenzo Romar has WSU coach Ken Bone’s back

Though the Washington State basketball team has slogged through a disappointing year, the Cougars can still come away from the 2013-14 season with bragging rights, if not much else. WSU (9-18, 2-13 Pac-12) beat rival Washington 72-67 in February. On Friday the Cougars can complete a regular-season sweep of the Huskies (15-13, 7-8 Pac-12) for the first time since 2011.

Gonzaga’s baseball team has experienced some growing pains early this season. The Bulldogs (2-6) are breaking in a young team that features a brand new starting rotation on the mound. The Bulldogs have lost their past three games, and went just 1-3 in both the Husker Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the Irish Baseball Classic in San Antonio, Texas. But GU coach Mark Machtolf isn’t worried despite his team’s early struggles.

Cougars aim to shoot down Ducks

Points haven’t come easy for the Washington State basketball team this season, which is last in the Pac-12 in scoring at 62.6 points per game. Today against Oregon they’ll face a foe that has struggled in conference play except when it comes to putting points on the board. The Ducks (17-8, 5-8 Pac-12) are the conference scoring leaders, averaging 83.5 points per game. Though UO has disappointed since entering conference play ranked No. 10 in the country, they still have something to play for.
