Grants aim to preserve historic sites

Two historic properties on the Spokane area have been awarded grants by the Spokane Preservation Advocates organization. Mount St. Michael, a former Jesuit scholastic on a prominent hill above North Spokane, will get $5,000 to pay for an architectural and engineering evaluation to prioritize preservation projects.

Getting There: Transportation open houses this week

A yearlong effort to build a cohesive plan for transportation in the Spokane region is nearing completion, and the public is going to get another chance to comment. Old dog, new deployment

Lucky, a military dog based at Fairchild Air Force Base, may be 10 years old and a two-time cancer survivor, but he’s also young enough to take on a fourth tour of duty overseas. Lucky and his new handler, Staff Sgt. Chris Fall, were scheduled to depart this morning for Manas Transit Center in Kyrgyzstan after veterinarians at Fairchild gave Lucky the green light.
