Man held in robbery at downtown Spokane hotel

A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly beating and robbing a woman in her downtown hotel room. The victim called police from the 7-Eleven store at 177 S. Division St. and said she had been beaten and robbed in her room at the FairBridge Inn Express hotel, 211 S. Division St., about 4:30 a.m.

Student pilot dies when copter goes down in yard

A student helicopter pilot is dead after the craft he was piloting crashed Wednesday in a residential neighborhood just east of Felts Field. The small helicopter owned by the Inland Helicopters flight school appears to have lost power, leaving debris scattered over several blocks before crashing into the backyard of a home at 3730 N. Center Road about 4:30 p.m.

Dakota Smith had no idea welding had anything to do with the Boy Scouts. “I thought it was all outdoors and stuff,” the 10-year-old from Spokane said. There was the outdoors stuff, too, as Smith and the other members of Cub Scout Pack 117 watched Cub Master David Mayfield eat a grub on behalf of his pack, as part of a survival demonstration. Grub eating and welding were but two of the more than 150 activities offered today to participants at the Centennial Camporee at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center.
