For the last time, Steve Case handed out T-shirts and water to weary, sweaty little bodies as they crossed the finish line at Joe Albi Stadium. Case has been volunteering at America’s Kids Run – or Junior Bloomsday as it was formerly known – for 18 of the event’s 25 years in existence.

Trio’s theft arrest yields stash of cash

Spokane County sheriff’s deputies arrested a trio of Seattle-area forgery suspects Friday who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from Spokane banks in a scheme involving stolen credit cards. One of the suspects had $26,000 hidden in her bra when she was arrested. Arrested on charges of first-degree theft were Corey Jones, 24, Lukeisha A. Harris, 24, and Elicionne L. Washington, 23.

Peterson appointed to Kootenai post

Coeur d’Alene defense attorney Clark A. Peterson has been appointed as Kootenai County magistrate, the Magistrate Commission of the 1st Judicial District of Idaho announced Wednesday. Peterson will fill the vacancy left empty by Judge Benjamin Simpson, who was appointed in December to succeed 1st District Court Judge Charles Hosack, who retired.

Pullman firefighters responded to the 12-unit Chief Joseph Village complex at 2025 N.E. Terre View Drive about 4:46 a.m. Crews found flames coming from at least one unit.
