Obituaries

Robert Barnhart

Spokane

Service for Robert K. Barnhart, 70, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow with Riplinger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnhart, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

A graduate of Rogers High School, he retired from the City of Spokane welding shop and was a member of the Spokane Employee’s Association. He was a World War II Army Corps of Engineers Veteran, a member of Eagle’s Aerie No. 2, and a former member of Moose Lodge No. 161.

His wife, Marian Barnhart, died in 1989. He is survived by one daughter, Kathy Schmieg of Otis Orchards; one son, Gerald Barnhart of Spokane; one brother, Norman Barnhart of Spokane, and four grandchildren.

Amanda Sharr

Grand Coulee

Service for Amanda Joan Sharr, 68, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of the Nazarene in Grand Coulee. Burial will follow at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee. Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sharr, who was born in Springfield, Ore., died Thursday at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

She and her husband moved to the Grand Coulee area in 1958. She worked as a cook in area restaurants and also worked for the Grand Coulee area Seniors.

She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post No. 157 in Electric City and a past member of the Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harry Sharr, at home; six sons, Terry Sharr of Spokane, Harry, Larry, Mike, Melvin and Lucky Sharr, all of Grand Coulee; six daughters, Neoma Iannetta of Coulee Dam, Carolyn Hickman of Redmond, Wash., Echo Pound of Ephrata, Wash.; Swannie Sharr of Grand Coulee, Pamela Mettling of Benton City, Wash., and Cristal Bernal of Spokane; one brother, John Plummer of Eugene, Ore.; three sisters, Rose Arndt of Richland, Mescal Thompson of Springfield, Ore., and Teddie Plummer of Eugene; 25 grandchildren, and 17 greatgrandchildren.

Lee Luft

Spokane

Memorial service for Lee T. Luft, 86, will be held in Glencoe, Minn. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Luft, 86, died Wednesday. She was born in Bergen, Minn.

She graduated form the University of Arizona. She worked as a legal secretary and lived in Spokane for 50 years.

She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and was active in Junior League and the Medical Auxiliary in Spokane.

Her husband, Paul Luft, died in 1984. There are no surviving family members.

Irene Bonomi

Prichard, Idaho

Memorial service was held for Irene H. Bonomi at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, in Wallace, Idaho. Burial was at Murray (Idaho) Cemetery.

Mrs. Bonomi, 75, died June 21. She lived in the Wallace, Idaho area since 1938. She was an Avon representative and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Duff Bonomi, at home; three sons, Keith Piccinini of Avery, Idaho, Robert Bonomi of Plano, Texas and Jack Bonomi of Pinehurst, Idaho; one daughter, Rosa Piccinini of Spokane; two brothers, Oroville Keith of Thomoson Falls, Mont., and Leo Keith of Helena, Mont.; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.

Kathryne Steffer

Spokane

Memorial service for Kathryne H. Steffer, 89, is planned for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at North Hill Christian Church. Private burial will precede at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Mrs. Steffer died Thursday. She was born in Minneapolis.

She volunteered with the Red Cross and the Veterans Hospital and was a homemaker. She lived in Spokane for 70 years.

She was a member of North Hill Christian Church and American Legion Auxiliary No. 9.

Her husband, H.W. “Steve” Steffer, died in 1977. She is survived by one son, the Rev. Robert Steffer of Guelph, Ontario, and two grandchildren.

Nicholas Thompson

Spokane

Service was held Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home for Nicholas Allen Thompson, 14. There was private burial.

Nicholas died July 25 from complications due to Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome. He was lifetime Spokane resident and attended Northwood Junior High School.

He is survived by his parents, Scott and Diana Thompson; one brother, Jesse Thompson; three sisters, Sheila, Sheryl and Sharlet Thompson; his grandparents, Garland and Marilyn Thompson, all of Spokane, and Exahila Craine of Coeur d’Alene.

Ethel Flory

Spokane

Graveside service for Ethel May Flory, 97, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Flory, who died Thursday, was born in Wood River, Neb.

She moved to Spokane in 1903, with her family. She worked as a salesclerk at Culbertson’s Clothing Store and at Galena Air Depot during World War II.

Her husband, Odes Flory, died in 1975. She is survived by one granddaughter, Juanita Goodman of Spokane; four grandsons, Gerald Goodman of Vancouver, Wash., Richard Goodman of Ann Arbor, Mich., Steven Flory of Bellevue, Wash., and David Flory of Yakima, and seven great-grandchildren.

Minnie Williams

Spokane

Graveside service for Minnie W. Williams, 83, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Valley (Wash.) Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Williams, who was born in Minnesota, died Thursday.

She lived in Valley, Wash., and moved to Spokane in 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Hazel Fellows and Helen McDaniel, both of Spokane; two brothers, Richard Waldow of Spokane and Albert Waldow of Miles City, Mont.; three sisters, Bernice Swanson of Deer Lake, Wash., Ida Hueston of Spokane and Sophie Kuether, both of Spokane, and numerous step-grandchildren.

Eivind `Ed’ Holum

Tacoma

Memorial service for Eivind “Ed” Holum is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Lutheran Church in Spokane. Gaffney, Cassedy, Allen and Buckley King Funeral Home in Tacoma is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holum, 94, died Friday at Tacoma Lutheran Home. He was born in Norway.

He moved to North Dakota from Norway in 1902 and to Montana in 1916. He and his wife moved to Washington State in in 1937. They lived in Spokane for 53 years, and moved to Tacoma in January.

He operated an automotive tune-up shop. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and Central Lutheran Church in Spokane.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Gaffney, at home; four sons, Lee Gaffney of Birmingham, Ala., John Gaffney of Redmond, Wash., David Gaffney of Kalispell, Mont., and Everett Gaffney of Tacoma; six grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Josephine Tallent

Kellogg, Idaho

Service for Josephine Frances Tallent, 89, is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wallace Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Murray (Idaho) Cemetery. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tallent, who died Thursday, was born in Mountain Home, Idaho.

She moved to the Kellogg area in 1929, from Mountain Home. She was a homemaker and had operated Jo’s Cafe in Mullan, Idaho.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Mountain Home.

Her husband, Luther “Luke” Tallent, died in 1993. She is survived by one son, R.J. “Jack” Tallent of Riggins, Idaho; one daughter, Willa “Billie” Newman of Benton, La.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
