Eivind `Ed’ Holum

Tacoma

Memorial service for Eivind “Ed” Holum is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Lutheran Church in Spokane. Gaffney, Cassedy, Allen and Buckley King Funeral Home in Tacoma is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holum, 94, died Friday at Tacoma Lutheran Home.

Born in Norway, he moved to North Dakota in 1902 and to Montana in 1916.

He and his wife moved to Washington state in 1937. They lived in Spokane for 53 years and moved to Tacoma in January.

Mr. Holum operated an automotive tune-up shop.

He was a member of the Sons of Norway and Central Lutheran Church in Spokane.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Holum, at home; four sons, Lee Holum of Birmingham, Ala., John Holum of Redmond, Wash., David Holum of Kalispell, Mont., and Everett Holum of Tacoma; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Albert `Verne’ Bates

Chattaroy, Wash.

Service for Albert L. “Verne” Bates, 75, is planned for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chattaroy Community Church. Lauer Funeral Home of Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bates, who died Friday, was born in Salem. Ore.

He lived in Santa Monica, Calif., and moved to Chattaroy in 1975 after he retired.

He served in the Army Signal Corps in World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Bates was a member of Chattaroy Community Church, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Posse and the Eagles Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Bates at home; one son, Roger Bates of Denver; two daughters, Diane Bates of Lynnwood, Wash., and Cheryl Cullom of Goleta, Calif.; one brother, Robert Bates of Barstow, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Medical Center.

John Edwards

Spokane

Private cremation is planned for John Edwards, 87.

Mr. Edwards, a 79-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

Born in Milgavie, Scotland, he attended South Central High School, now Lewis and Clark High School.

He operated Inland Roofing and Supply Co. for 25 years.

His wife, Verla Edwards, died in 1992.

He is survived by two sons, John and Richard Edwards, both of Spokane; one brother, David Edwards of Calgary, Alberta; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Oskars Kadzejs

Spokane

Service for Mr. Oskars E. Kadzejs, 82, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Inurnment was private.

Mr. Kadzejs died Friday.

Born in Latvia, he lived in Spokane for 30 years and retired as a meat inspector from the Department of Agriculture in 1980. He was also a doctor of veterinary medicine.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lonija Kadzejs, at home; two sons Eriks Kadzejs of Spokane and Andris Kadzejs of Missoula; and four grandchildren.

James Davis, M.D.

Spokane

Service for Dr. James Wesley Davis is pending. Entombment will be at Holyrood Mausoleum in Seattle. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Dr. Davis, who was born in Martin, Tenn., died Friday. He was 87.

He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree, and he received his medical degree in 1932.

He served in the Navy as a flight surgeon during World War II and the Korean War. From 1954 until 1978 he worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Seattle.

Dr. Davis moved to Spokane in 1984.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Medical Association, Phi Rho Sigma medical fraternity, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

His first wife, Marie Davis, died in 1957. His second wife, Agnes Davis, died in 1975.

He is survived by one son, James Davis Jr. of Spokane; one daughter, Maureen Wuhrman of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters, June Severs of Camden, S.C., and Mary Alyce Houke of Bradenton, Fla.; one brother, Joseph Davis of Centralia, Ill.; six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Isabel Le Mieux

Spokane

Service for Isabel M. Le Mieux, 72, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Le Mieux, who died Thursday, was born in Hardin, Mont.

She graduated from Rogers High School and Kinman Business University.

During World War II she worked for the ration board and later worked at the Bremerton Shipyards. She returned to Spokane in 1945 and began working for First National Bank in 1957.

She was active in several bowling leagues.

Mrs. Le Mieux is survived by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Le Mieux, at home; two daughters, Janice Kaler and Marla Vanos, both of Spokane; one sister, Jessie Goldsmith of Casper, Wyo.; and four grandsons.

Elaine Popejoy

Spokane

Private service will be held for Elaine Hyacinth Popejoy.

Mrs. Popejoy, 81, died last Tuesday.

She was born in Strathmore, Alberta.

She cared for children at the First Presbyterian Church nursery for 27 years before retiring in 1984.

Her husband, Donald Popejoy Sr., died March 17.

Mrs. Popejoy is survived by one son, Donald Popejoy Jr. of Spokane; one daughter, Sharon Blood of Priest River, Idaho; one sister, Cleo Helm of Spokane; one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

Zelda McPherson

Spokane

Graveside service for Zelda L. McPherson, 85, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McPherson, a 24-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

Born in Lusk, Wyo., she was a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Janice Carhart of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Nadine Dougherty of MiltonFreewater, Ore., and Paula Gray of Port Townsend, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.

Edvin Peterson

Spokane

Service for Edvin K. Peterson, 86, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Peterson, who died Friday, was born in Spokane. He was a farmer and lived in Spokane for 75 years.

He was a member of Mica Neighborhood Grange and Valleyford Community Church.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Peterson, at home; three sons, Marvin Peterson of Colfax, Wash., Richard Peterson of Valleyford, and Roger Peterson of Spokane; one daughter, Sue Anselmo of Spokane; one brother, Frank Peterson of Spokane; one sister, Vila Burt of Kennewick; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valleyford Community Church or the Union Gospel Mission.

Violet Davis

Spokane

Funeral Mass was held at St. Peter Catholic Church for Violet M. Davis, 84. Burial was at the Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis, who died Thursday, was born in St. Paul, Minn.

She lived in Spokane for 60 years and operated the Spokane Valley Travel Agency for many years.

She was a member of St. Peter Parish.

Her husband, Arthur Davis, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Davis is survived by three nieces, Barbara Rizzuto of Seattle, Marie Gronnebek of Spokane, and Kathleen Schultz of Boise; four nephews, David Oiland of Seattle, Michael Oiland and Don “Bud” Heller, both of Spokane, and Dale Heller of Federal Way, Wash.; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Margaret Thomas-Moore

Mandan, N.D.

Graveside service for Margaret “Peggy” Thomas-Moore is planned for 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas-Moore, 58, died Thursday in Bismarck, N.D.

She was born in Coeur d’Alene.

She and her husband, George Moore, moved to Mandan in 1978.

Her first husband, LeRoy Mackey, died in 1966.

She is survived by her husband, at home; four daughters, Debbie and Gail Mackey, and Barbara Bethke, all of Mandan, and Karen Wixon of Buford, S.C.; one son, Justin Moore of Mandan; three sisters, Darlene Gamble and Lucille Thompson, both of Spokane, and Barb Crumley of Fayetteville, N.C.; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Harold Wright

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Harold A. Wright, 84, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wright who died Friday, was born in Colfax, Wash.

He was a dispatcher for Bekins Moving and Storage Co. for 32 years.

Mr. Wright was a member of the Moose Lodge and was a Golden Eagle with the Eagles Lodge. He was also a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

His wife, Beatrice Wright, died in 1992.

Mr. Wright is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Green of Spokane and Mabel Hughes of Colfax; and one brother, Max Wright of Spokane.

Kenneth deUlibarri

Spokane

Funeral Mass for Kenneth Leopold deUlibarri, 30, was celebrated Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mr. deUlibarri, a 29-year Spokane resident, died Thursday from acute leukemia.

He was born in San Jose, Calif.

He graduated from North Central High School and Eastern Washington University. He worked at Sacred Heart Hospital as an anesthesia technician.

Mr. deUlibarri was a Catholic and was a member of the Mensa Society.

He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Ulibarri of Spokane; three sisters, Mary Ulibarri and Theresa Anderson, both of Spokane, and Beth Cushman of Kent, Wash.; and his grandmother, Rose Ulibarri of Fremont, Calif.

Edna Korte

Spokane

Memorial service for Edna Korte, 82, is planned at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Korte, who was born in Blue Earth, Minn., died July 11.

She worked as a sales clerk at The Crescent until 1975. She had lived in Spokane for more than 52 years.

Mrs. Korte was a member of the Ladies of the Moose.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, at home; one daughter, Karen Korte of Spokane; one son, Richard Korte of Olympia; one sister, Dorothy McLaughlin of Yakima; and four brothers, Harry Linde of Thermopolis, Wyo., Herman Linde of The Dalles, Ore., John Linde of Keystone, S.D., and Carl Linde of Berkeley, Calif.

Thea Whetzel

Spokane

Service for Thea B. Whetzel, is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Peone Prairie Cemetery in Mead.

Mrs. Whetzel, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Spokane resident. She was a homemaker.

She graduated from Mead High School and was a member of the Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Earl Whetzel of Mead and Theo “Skip” Whetzel of Eureka, Mont.; and five grandchildren.

Beverly Ulland

Mead

Graveside service was Monday at Peone Prairie Cemetery in Mead for Beverly A. Ulland.

Mrs. Ulland, who was born in Fargo, N.D., died Thursday.

A homemaker, she lived in Mead for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Don Ulland, at home; one daughter, Rita Hahn of Mead; one son, Jeff Ulland of Spokane; one sister, Betty Jess of Morehead, Minn.; and five grandchildren.
