Crews Contain Sanders Beach Blaze
Two dozen firefighters battled a forest fire in the Sander Beach area Monday, just a few yards away from homes along Lost Avenue.
The fire near 16th and Lost Avenue was contained in about 45 minutes, fire chief Franklin Sexton said.
But residents weren’t taking any chances. A handful watched firefighters nervously, while two or three others sprinkled their roofs with water.
Sexton said homes never were in danger, because winds blew flames up a hill south of Lost Avenue. the fire was extinguished by 7 p.m.
The cause of the blaze was not known late Monday.
