Search Continues Near Border For Missing Man
A 24-year-old Coeur d’Alene man remained lost Tuesday in the rugged Bloom Peak area near the Idaho/ Montana border.
Shawn Cook, 24, disappeared Monday after he became separated from two friends, Lt. Spike Angle of the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department reported Tuesday.
Cook, Chad Emmit and Brian Hanna, all from Coeur d’Alene, were on a camping trip along the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River when the three men became separated. The last time anyone saw Cook was 8 a.m. Monday, Angle said.
Hanna hiked out of the wilderness area immediately after he lost his friends. Emmit found his way out Monday afternoon, Angle said. The pair reported Cook missing late Monday after he failed to appear.
“It’s kind of strange,” Angle said. But he doesn’t suspect foul play and has no reason to believe Cook is hurt, though he added that “It’s real rough country he’s in.”
Efforts to reach Hanna and Emmit Tuesday were unsuccessful.
Searchers from Shoshone County and Sanders County, Mont., began their hunt Tuesday morning.
Cook is 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white baseball cap, red, white and blue flannel shirt, blue sweat pants and tan, high-top tennis shoes.
Anyone with information on Cook should call the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Department at 556-1114.
