Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

On the backstretch, it’s often said that “conditions make winners,” or words to that effect. Jockey agents say it frequently, almost as often as jockeys admit that “good horses make good rider.”

Most races, of course, are conditions neutral with all horses equal, whether they are non-winners this year or non-winners of three races lifetime. However, horses sometimes race outside their conditions.

Watch for horses with plausible form that are “getting the conditions,” i.e. returning to their own company. Abortive mid-race moves against $2,500 non-winners of two races this year can be winning rallies against $2,500 non-winners of two lifetime.

Tonight, Elfarrow, who faces non-winners of two in the third race, has been running in open company at Yakima Meadows. Fleet-footed Windy Kiss, entered for $2,500 claiming in the fifth, was cooked early in the Sweetheart Handicap.
