Cathryn Westlie Fairfield

Graveside service for Cathryn Westlie, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery in Latah, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Westlie, who died Saturday, was born in Rosendale Township, Minn. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Hites of Blanchard, Idaho, and Clyde Hites of Goldendale, Wash.; two daughters, Sylvia Southwell of Fairfield and Cathryn Eastwood of Spokane; 13 grandchildren, numerous greatgrandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.

Doris Morin Spokane

Memorial Service for Doris L. Morin, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Spokane, Mrs. Morin died Friday. She and her daughter operated The Toy Shop in the Flour Mill for 20 years. She was a lifetime Spokane resident and was a member of Spokane Soroptimist Club.

Her husband, Emmett Morin, died in 1979. She is survived by three sons, James, Charles and William Morin, all of Spokane; one daughter, Nancy Gardner of Spokane; three sisters, Sue Shaw of Spokane, Margaret Templeton of Portland and Nancy Kennedy of Seattle; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alfred ‘Bud’ Allen Bellview, N.M.

Memorial service for Alfred N. “Bud” Allen, 84, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Born in Bellview, Mr. Allen died Thursday.

Mr. Allen was a retired barber and worked at the Spokane Club. He had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

He was a member of the North Hill Masonic Lodge No. 210, the Columbian Geological Society and the Spokane Men’s Garden Club.

His wife, Ruby Allen, died in 1983. He is survived by a sister, Bertha Dickson of Coffee Creek, Mont.; and a brother, Earl Allen of Clovis, N.M.

Verla Fuehrer Spokane

Graveside service for Verla H. Fuehrer, 88, will be at 2 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fuehrer, who died Saturday, was born in Tyghe Valley, Ore.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 50 years, and was a member of Spokane Valley Assembly of God.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ernest Fuehrer; a son, Dean Fuehrer, and two daughters, Arvellen Monaghan and Eunice Peterson, all of Spokane; a brother, Hughes Faith, and a sister, Gladys Mazzola, both of Colorado; 14 grandchildren, 25 greatgrandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses Association of Spokane or the American Cancer Society.

Roy Godfrey Spokane

Service for Roy Godfrey, 72, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial will follow. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Godfrey, who died Saturday, was born in Murray, Neb.

He worked for Riverview Terrace and retired in 1982.

He had lived in Spokane for 45 years and was a member of the Deer Park Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had served in the Army during World War II.

He is survived by three daughters, Sherry O’Russa and Julie Remington, both of Spokane, and Susan Godfrey of Newman Lake; two sons, Dennis Godfrey of Spokane and Danial Godfrey of Newman Lake; one sister, Lola Taylor of Salem, Ore.; three brothers, Kenneth Jones of Lakewood, Colo., Clyde Robinson of Grand Junction, Colo., and Francis Gould of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ieleen C. Haugen Spokane

Memorial service for Ieleen C. Haugen, 89, is planned for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lilac Plaza. Private burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett.

Mrs. Haugen, a 20-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

She was born in Snohomish, Wash.

She had worked as a clerk for Sears and J.C. Penney, and was a member of the Church of Religious Science.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Floch of Spokane; four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Stuart Blackwell Spokane

Memorial service for Stuart B. Blackwell, 72, is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mr. Blackwell, who was born in Kellogg, died Friday.

He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1940 and attended the University of Idaho until he entered the Navy during World War II. He spent two years in the Navy and returned to the University of Idaho and completed a degree in architecture. He worked in commercial architecture for 15 years in Spokane. In 1966 he went to work for the City of Spokane as the commercial plans examiner. He retired in 1986.

He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Moscow (Idaho) Elks Lodge, the Spokane Astronomical Society, the National Rifle Association and the Mid-City Senior Center.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Helen Blackwell; and two sisters, Rosemary Brandvold and Norma Brown, both of Spokane.

Georgia Zawadzki Spokane

Memorial service for Georgia Keeler Zawadzki, 59, is planned for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Mrs. Zawadzki, who died March 12, was born in Chicago. She had lived in Spokane since 1965.

She retired in 1991 from American States Insurance Co. after 23 years.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Raymond Zawadzki; three brothers, Charles and Frank Bartholomew, both of Chicago, and James Bartholomew of Williston, Fla.; five sisters, Alma Pace and Jane Coughlan, both of Lakeland, Fla., Elizabeth Brown of Plant City, Fla., Ruth Doggett of Commerce, Mich., and Mary Anhold of Bridgewater, Va.

Merna Spiger Spokane

Memorial service for Merna K. Schultz Spiger, 95, was Monday at Spokane Valley Baptist Church.

Mrs. Spiger, who was born in Omaha, Neb., died Thursday.

She had worked as a personnel manager/secretary in the auto electrical industry. She had lived in Spokane for 80 years and was a member of Spokane Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, June Syverson and Jacquie Kreyssler, both of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-greatgrandchildren and nine stepgrandchildren.

Her husbands, Norbert Schultz and Raleigh Spiger, both preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.

Mildred Hemingway Spokane

Private graveside service for Mildred B. Hemingway, 84, was held Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Hemingway, who died March 20, was born in Spokane.

Mr. Hemingway was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the Manito Golf and Country Club and Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph Hemingway of Mercer Island, Wash., and Bob Hemingway of Sumner, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Cleo Phillips Spokane

Graveside service for Cleo P. Phillips, 102, was Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.

Mrs. Phillips, a longtime Spokane resident, died Friday. She was born in Bluefield, W.Va.

She retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1972 and was a member of the Montgomery Avenue Christian Church.

Her husband, Guy Phillips Sr., died in 1928. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Lucy Phillips of Spokane; six grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren and 11 great-greatgrandchildren.

Katheryn Edington < Spokane

Graveside service for Susie Katheryn Edington, 87, was Monday at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.

Born in Arden, Wash., Miss Edington, died Saturday.

She was a schoolteacher for Spokane School District 81 for 34 years and had lived in Spokane for more than 50 years. After she retired, she was a volunteer at Holy Family Hospital.

She was a member of the Washington Association of Retired Teachers.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Evelyn Edington; a nephew and two nieces.

Grace Busby Spokane

Service for Grace P. Busby, 80, was held Monday at South Hill Bible Church. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Oakland, Mo., Mrs. Busby died Friday.

She moved to Spokane in 1953 and worked as a seamstress for Kathleen and Louise until 1976, when she retired.

During World War II she worked in the Portland shipyards.

She was a member of South Hill Bible Church.

Her husband, Earl Busby, died in 1989. She is survived by a son, Elvin Busby of Portland; a daughter, Kathleen Anthony of Spokane; three sisters, Wilma Odom of Lebanon, Mich., Mary Frances Worrell of Downey, Calif., and Junvera Philip of Chicago; seven grandchildren, nine great-granddaughters and one greatgrandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Inland Empire Diabetes Association.

John Neudorfer Spokane

Private graveside service was held Monday at Riverside Memorial Park for John Neudorfer, 75.

Mr. Neudorfer, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He retired from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department in 1975 after 24 years. He served in the Army/Air Corps during World War II and earned two Air Medals and two Distinguished Flying Crosses.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Spokane Police Guild and St. John Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris Neudorfer; two sons, John and James Neudorfer, both of Spokane; three daughters, Sandra Sherrill of Peachtree City, Ga., and Marcia Childress and Janet Peterson, both of Spokane; one brother, Robert Neudorfer of Carlsbad, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren.

Millie Sieverkropp Moses Lake

Service for Millie Anna Sieverkropp, 94, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Burial will follow at Ritzville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Sieverkropp, who died Saturday at Terrace Heights Nursing Home in Moses Lake, was born in Ritzville.

She and her husband, Herman Sieverkropp, moved to Odessa, Wash., from Puyallup, in 1940. Her husband died in 1956. She moved to Cheney in 1957 and began working for Eastern Washington University in 1958. She retired in 1979 and moved to Moses Lake seven years ago.

She was a member of Cheney Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Ladies Church Group.

She is survived by a daughter, Ruth Krandall of Puducah, Ky.; five sons, Eldred Sieverkropp of Ritzville; Raymond Sieverkropp and Robert Sieverkropp, both of Ephrata, Donald Sieverkropp of Odessa and Wayne Sieverkropp of Veradale; 25 grandchildren and 35 greatgrandchildren.

Marguerite Kleinknecht Chewelah, Wash.

Memorial service for Marguerite Kleinknecht, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Unity Church of Truth in Spokane. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Kleinknecht, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

She worked for Wayne H. Teeft Insurance for many years and was a member of the Unity Church of Truth.

She is survived by two sisters, Irene Welch of Spokane and Berneal Culverwell of Chewelah.

Carolyn Lawson Palouse, Wash.

Memorial service for Carolyn Mary Lawson, 53, will be held later. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lawson, who died Friday from cancer, was born in Spokane.

She graduated from Pullman High School and attended Kinman Business School. She worked for Washington State University until 1964, then worked for the Appaloosa Horse Club in Moscow, Idaho. In 1969 she returned to WSU and worked as a secretary for the agriculture extension office until December.

She was a member of the Arabian Horse Association and the Washington Horse Council. She also was a 4-H leader.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Lawson; and a daughter, Kris DeTrolio of Moses Lake.

Jack ‘Bud’ Leitl Spokane

No service will be held for Jack D. “Bud” Leitl, 70, at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Leitlm, who died March 27, was born in Squaw Lake, Minn.

He moved to Spokane in 1941 and owned several service stations and a used car lot. He also operated B.J.s Tavern in Hillyard for five years. He retired in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beatrice Leitl; two daughters, Karen Reed and Sharon Rawson, both of Spokane; a sister, Dorothy Woicik of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Shirley Hotchkiss Northport, Wash.

At her request, no service will be held for Shirley M. Hotchkiss, 66. Danekas Funeral Chapel, Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hotchkiss, who died Wednesday, was born in Pasadena, Calif., and moved to Northport in 1962.

She was a former secretary for Carney Pole Co. in Northport, and had been a waitress at the Trophy Tavern in Northport.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Clifford Hotchkiss; a daughter, Susan Weimer of Colville; three sons, Gary Hotchkiss and Dean Hotchkiss, both of Girdwood, Alaska, and Dale Hotchkiss of Copulis Crossing, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Bruner of Orange, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Richard Smith Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Richard C. Smith, 70, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Friday in Spokane. He was born in Chicago and lived in California for 49 years.

He served in the Marines during World War II in Guam, Guadalcanal, Singtao and China. He received a Purple Heart and President Unit Citation. He was a broker-owner of Richard Smith Realty.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign War, the Chamber of Commerce, and was the chairman of the Christian Business Men’s Association. He loved to fish.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, June; three sons, Jason Smith of Coeur d’Alene, David Smith of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Lawrence Smith of Fair Oaks, Calif.; five daughters, Cherie Roberts and Renee Smith, both of Coeur d’Alene, Lisa Medina of San Jose, Calif., Therese Molinare of Fair Oaks and Denise Nickerson of Hauser Lake; mother, Virginia Eschenbaum of Yucca Valley, Calif., one brother, Robert Smith of Yucca Valley; 23 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Rev. Lauren Hall McReynolds Kellogg

Service for the Rev. Lauren Hall McReynolds, 69, is set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service of Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. McReynolds died Saturday at Shoshone Medical Center.

He was born in Portland, Ore., obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and his masters of divinity from Church Divinity School of the Pacific. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He was ordained in 1953 and was priest for the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Kellogg and the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Wallace.

The Rev. McReynolds married Elizabeth Sanford in 1950 and moved to the area in 1961. He retired in 1974.

He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons, received the Demolay Legion of Honor, was the first Demolay advisor and recognized as the first state of Idaho Demolay Dad. He was a member and past president of the Kellogg Rotary club, a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International, and served on the Governor’s Advisory Council for Youth. He was chaplain for the Hospital Ship Hope.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James McReynolds of Waldorf, Md., and Graham McReynolds of Portland; three daughters, Anne McReynolds and Mary McReynolds, both of Moscow, and Margaret McReynolds of Portland; mother, Alva McReynolds of Portland; one sister, Leanne McReynolds of Beaverton, Ore.; five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
