Bev Numbers Announces Plans To Seek Re-Election

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane City Councilwoman Bev Numbers announced plans Wednesday to run for re-election.

Council seats held by Numbers, Joel Crosby and Orville Barnes are up for grabs this fall. Numbers is the first person to take an official step toward the coming election.

“They wanted me to announce so I couldn’t back out,” said Numbers, 54, of her supporters.

Numbers said “teamwork” will be her campaign’s theme. Her driving issues include growth, infrastructure, public safety and “how we’re going to deal with them from here.”

Numbers was appointed to the council in 1990.

In 1991, she ran for re-election unopposed after a judge ruled that her challenger, current Councilman Chris Anderson, was disqualified because he hadn’t been a city resident at least two years as required by City Charter.

John Talbot ran an unsuccessful write-in campaign against Numbers.

At least 75 people attended Wednesday’s campaign kick-off luncheon, including former mayor Sheri Barnard, former County Commissioner Pat Mummey and Councilwoman Phyllis Holmes.
