Italian Sculptor Dies From Stroke
Emilio Greco, a sculptor who designed the Orvieto cathedral’s bronze doors, has died of a stroke.
Greco, 82, died Wednesday in a Rome hospital.
Greco, who taught in Rome, Germany and France, was famous for the gracefulness of his female nudes, reminiscent of classical Greek and Etruscan sculpture.
His more famous works include a monument to the character of Pinocchio in Collodi, a Tuscan town, and the doors on the medieval cathedral of Orvieto in Umbria.
