Specialists To Explain Pains In The Back
The Arthritis Foundation, Eastern Washington Chapter, is sponsoring two free forums called “Back Pain - What Hurts, What Works” Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Deaconess Health and Education Center, 910 W. Fifth, and Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Shriners Hospital, 911 W. Fifth.
Rheumatologist Dr. Gary Craig and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tim Lovell will lead the presentations.
Both sessions will discuss the same topics.
Participants can bring sack lunches to the afternoon session or purchase them for $4.

Cataracts forum
The “HealthTalks” series, sponsored by Rockwood Clinic and HealthPlus, continues on Wednesday with “Cataracts and the Maturing Eye,” an educational program on cataracts, surgical treatments and the effects of aging on the eyes.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Cynthia Cilyo will lead the seminar.

Nurse commission to meet
The Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission, formerly the State Board of Nursing, meets at 7 tonight at the Spokane County Health Department Auditorium, 1101 W. College.
Commission members Carolyn Hunter, Becky Kerban and Jean Stevens will discuss the following topics:
The difference between the new commission and the Board of Nursing.
How changes in the Nurse Practice Act will reflect RN, LPN and ARNP codes.
Issues being addressed by this year’s commission.
How the current legislative session will affect nursing.
There will a question and answer period following the discussion.
The cost is $5, free for students and members of the Inland Empire Nurses Association.

Eating disorders
A class on “Eating Disorders and Related Issues” will be next Monday at 7 p.m. at the Deaconess Health Education Center, 910 W. Fifth.
The class, which will be conducted by counselor Sue Greenfelder, is open to men and women who suffer from eating disorders as well people with family members or close friends who have eating ailments.
The class is $5. Women’s Health Network and Health Access members can attend free.
