Cheney, Clarkston Knotted On Track
Aaron Jelinek’s first-place mark in the triple jump (39 feet, 4 1/4 inches) gave visiting Clarkston a 72-point tie with Cheney in a Frontier League track meet Thursday afternoon.
The defending league-champion Blackhawks took a one-point lead into the final event after winning the 1,600 relay with a time of 3 minutes, 34.4 seconds.
Jelinek responded with a leap which easily outdistanced secondplace finisher August Parker of Cheney (38-7).
At Riverside, Pat Ferguson was a three-event winner with victories in the long (19-1), triple (41-9) and high jumps (6-4) as East Valley crushed Colville 109-32.
Aaron Wilkensen had a throw of 176-5 in the javelin for the Knights, while Rob Shogren was a triple winner with his times in the 300 hurdles (42.6), 200 (22.9) and 1,600 relay.
At Pullman, Joel Baldwin turned in winning times for both the 110 hurdles (17.0) and 300 hurdles (44.8) to lead West Valley to an 84-61 victory over Pullman.
Mike Schroeder recorded a throw of 174-6 in the javelin while Clayton Holmes had a time of 4:39.4 in the 1,600 for the Eagles.
Girls
Terra Inman’s victories in the high jump (4-9) and triple jump (34-0) helped give three-time defending league champion West Valley a 111-30 win over host Pullman.
Vicki Mudd recorded a throw of 112-4 in the javelin, while teammate Kaci Stansbury won the shot put (38-0 1/4) and discus (135-0).
Jeanette Zimmer won the 1,600 (5:17) and 800 (2:24.9) to lead host Cheney past Clarkston, 92.5 to 46.5.
Christina Scott had a throw of 109-0 1/4 feet in the discus for the Blackhawks, while teammate Erin Soliday threw 108-1 in the javelin.
At Riverside, Christal Nicholson had won the 200 (27.9), 300 hurdles (49.2), 110 hurdles (16.5) and 400 relay as East Valley downed Colville 111-30. The Knights’ Star Olson won the long jump (15-10) and triple jump (34-3).
GSL softball
Angie Vulcano drove in Traci Moore with a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning as Rogers defeated visiting Gonzaga Prep 2-1.
Moore (5-1) allowed just two hits in 10 innings. Stevie Palmer (3-3) also threw a complete game, but the Bulldogs allowed seven hits and committed four errors.
All other scheduled GSL softball and baseball games were postponed. Makeup dates are undetermined.
