Easter Opening Angers Ministers

Associated Press

Some Baptist ministers are angry over Kmart Corp.’s decision to open its doors for the first time on Easter Sunday, saying the discount chain is exploiting a religious holiday to make money.

Kmart announced last month that its stores would be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the holiday.

About 35 Baptist ministers wrote to the Troy, Mich.based company and two store managers in Dothan, Ala., urging them to reconsider.

Kmart said employees will be working the holiday on a voluntary basis.
