Two Men Rob North-Side Store

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two men robbed a north Spokane convenience store Tuesday night, firing rounds from a revolver as they came in and left, police said.

Before they walked inside Grocery Boys Empire, 3430 N. Crestline, shortly before 10 p.m., one of the robbers fired a shot into the air outside. Then they made one of the clerks fill a grocery bag with cash and ordered her to the floor.

Another clerk, who didn’t want her name used, said she stood near the register and covered her face with her hands because she was afraid looking at the robbers would make them angry.

“I just stood there and then they fired again and I thought she’d been shot,” the woman said of her coworker. “They were in and out in, like, seconds.”

Police tried to use dogs to track the robbers, who fled north on foot, but the search failed.

“The only description we have is two black males,” Sgt. Martin Anderson said. “We don’t have much to go on.”

No one was injured. Police said the thieves probably fired blanks because no bullet holes were found inside the store.

The clerks were unsure how much money was taken.
