Murray’s Lands Spot On World Wide Web
(From For the record, Friday, April 21, 1995): Murray’s Bookstore’s address on the World Wide Web is http://www.iea.com/(tilde)murrayco. The address was incorrect in Thursday’s Spokesman-Review because of a typesetting error. Also, Murray’s does not sell textbooks at its downtown store, as indicated in the article.
Murray’s Bookstore became the second bookstore in Spokane to tap into an international market when it opened a site Wednesday on the World Wide Web.
The Web, a high-resolution graphic access route to the Internet, allows businesses to advertise products and services to roughly 2 million Web browsers. With Clarke & Stone Book Co. already on the Web, Spokane boasts a disproportionate number of the 60 Web-accessible bookstores in the United States.
Murray’s uses its Web site to preview new books and to find used academic and text books for resale in his downtown shop.
Although Web users do not fit any specific demographic niche, store owner Will Murray said his Web site will emphasize regionally published books on history, Americana and the West.
“If you look at the Web, the users are highly educated, affluent and interested in something other than true romance novels,” said Murray, a Spokane bookseller since 1991.
