Bowling Association Gives Awards At Annual Meeting
The Spokane Women’s Bowling Association recently honored individuals with awards at their annual spring meeting.
Babe Wehr was the recipient of the Hall of Fame award. During her 31 years of bowling with the SWBA, she has promoted bowling by working at the Spokane County Fair distributing bowling information and working with the Spokane Bowling Council. She has been the SWBA secretary for the past 10 years.
Dick Hoering, proprietor of North Bowl, was honored with the Sponsor of the Year award. He has sponsored at least seven women’s leagues, including one for over 21 years. He has sponsored women’s bowling teams for local SWBA tournaments in addition to state and national tournaments. He hosts New Year’s Eve bowling parties for junior bowlers, sponsors an annual senior citizen tour and several upand-coming young bowlers on the professional bowler’s tour. He has a Young Adults Bowling Association program and furnishes hot dogs, pizza and soft drinks while they are bowling.
The following members were elected to association positions: Lotus McClenahan, first vice president; Babe Wehr, secretary; and Jerri Friberg, Myra Boughter, Jo Schuyler, Carol Buxton, Betty Pery, and Helen Yarroll, directors.
Shadle Park High School marketing and psychology classes recently held a competition to prepare a 30-second public service announcement for television conveying the ills of drug abuse.
Winners were Kim Snell, Amanda Marx, and Tamara Ganyo. Their message was “Alcohol leaves more than a hangover.”
Honorable mention awards went to: Carrie Keyes, Kathy Larsen, Koshare Schmitz, and Laura Steiger from the marketing and DECA class; and Joann Chasse, Shayna Ange, and Jamie Baldwin, from psychology.
Gregory Tew, Spokane, has been named a Mississippi State University 1995 Alumni Fellow. He is an assistant professor of interior design at Washington State University School of Architecture.
David Logan, Spokane, has been named to the dean’s list for the winter quarter at Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls. He is majoring in civil engineering technology.
Three Spokane-area literacy teachers have received Presidential Commendations from President Clinton for their efforts in promoting literacy in their local area. They are: Bridget Condon, Adult Education Center; Debra Stanger, American Indian Center; and Kelly Brown, Spokane County Jail. They are all members of Americorps, a national organization which promotes Adult Education.
