Judy Frigon Chosen As WSU Mom Of The Year

Judy Frigon, training coordinator in information technology at Washington State University, was recognized as the 1995 WSU Mom of the Year at the annual Mom’s Weekend brunch.

As president of the Inland Empire Girl Scout Council since 1989, she volunteers approximately 150 hours per month to Girl Scouts, overseeing more than 1,500 volunteers in the 52,000 square mile region. She was instrumental in helping start the Student Computing Services Lab, where she is responsible for the staff and user training program. She created WSU People Networks and teaches several self-improvement courses. For the past nine years she has served as a representative for the WSU Combined Fund Drive.

Her daughter, WSU senior Shannon Frigon, nominated her by saying, “She showed us that anything that happens in our lives can become a positive growing experience.”

Also honored were WSU faculty and staff members of the year Frankie Harris and Donna Robinson. Students honored were WSU seniors Cristian Newell, Yakima; and Jeff Lanctot, Sunnyside.

The Four Diamond Award from the American Automobile Association was awarded to the following area businesses: Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park, The Coeur d’Alene Resort, The Sheraton-Spokane Hotel, and Beverly’s Restaurant.

The Sheraton has received the Four Diamond designation for 19 consecutive years, and Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park is in the category for the 12th year in a row. The Coeur d’Alene Resort received the honor for the eighth consecutive year. Beverly’s, located in the resort, has been designated with the award every year since AAA began restaurant ratings in 1990.

Nathaniel Sherrod, Walla Walla, was recently honored as a National Scholar of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. He was awarded a $5,000 college scholarship. The national group met in Washington, D.C., in early April. Sherrod is a senior at Walla Walla High School.

Dennis Washington, chairman of Washington Corporations, Missoula, was recently awarded a Horatio Alger Award. The award is given to outstanding individuals who have achieved success despite challenging childhood circumstances. He was honored at a national conference in Washington, D.C., in early April.
