Medical Services Council Presents Annual Awards

Spokane County Emergency Medical Services Council recently awarded their annual “Excellence in EMS” honors. Recipients were:

Basic Life Support Responder: Howard Varner, Spokane Fire Department.

Advanced Life Support Responder: Les Parkhurst, Deer Park and Spokane Ambulance Services.

Dispatcher: Sharon Eisfelder, Spokane Ambulance.

Instructor: Joan Brown and Mac McMurphy, Fire District No. 4.

Special Services: Dr. Mike Carlson, Rosalia Ambulance.

EMS Agency: Airway Heights Fire Department.

Special Recognition: 92nd Medical Group, Fairchild Hospital. Personnel were awarded for their professionalism and exemplary performance resulting in many lives saved during the tragic events on June 20, 1994, at Fairchild Air Force Base.

Shelly Ann Tysz, a student at Tekoa (Wash.) High School, received an Honorable Mention in the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle essay contest. The contest was held for students to express their views about Japan and relations between our two countries. Her essay was entitled: “Japan vs. America.”

Marisa Syms, a senior at Shadle Park High School and a varsity cheerleader, has had a poem selected for publication in a book entitled, “A Moment in Time,” a Library of Congress collection. Three other poems will be published in the Iliad Book of Poetry called “Musings.”

Sgt. Darin Cornwell, son of Larry and Shirley Cornwell, Colville, Wash., obtained the commandant’s list, awarded to the top 20 percent in his class, following graduation from the Primary Leadership Course, Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Deb Baldridge, food server at Best Western Templin’s Resort, Post Falls, has been named Employee of the Month. She has been employed with Templin’s since 1991.

The following awards were given during the annual meeting of R.W. Robideaux & Co.:

110 Percent Award: Kim Transue.

Extra Mile Award: Susan Person, Connie Anderson, and Margo Adams.

Outstanding Performance Award: Lynn Davis and Denise Harfield.

Eric Meier, Spokane, was selected to receive a Citizen of the Year Award from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. He was chosen for his dedication to the efforts to preserve the right of the people to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Shawn Hummell earned the right to go on to the National Debate and Speech Tournament to be held in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., in June. The students qualified by winning first or second place in their events at the National Qualifying Tournament held in Cheney. Hummel from Mead High School received first place for Humorous Interpretation.
