Visions Of The Inland Northwest Signs Of Spring Wildflowers, Blossoming Trees Signal Warmer Weather
Yesterday I walked around Bear Lake enjoying the partly sunny weather. It wasn’t raining like today. Upon returning home I jotted down this poem.
It is mid-March.
Already buttery spring flowers are pushing aside winter’s compost heap, replacing pine grove decay with constellations of gleaming yellow.
We pick one solitary buttercup from the crowd and we share a fresh, woodsy perfume.
Inhaling this earthy fragrance is a delight!

You can’t beat Spokane for the beauty of its flowering trees. Coming from Los Angeles, many years ago, I found myself missing the constancy of flowers in bloom. But then spring came here and everywhere I looked there was a feast for the eyes. One after the other, the trees would begin to burst into bloom with a profusion of whites, pinks, mauves and reds. Then I discovered that every season here has its own distinctive beauty which makes it such a joy to live in the Inland Northwest.
