Boat Theft, Chase Lead To Arrest
A Bonner County man was arrested Thursday, the day after he allegedly stole a boat from City Beach and led officers on a chase across Lake Pend Oreille.
Don Rasor, 35, was charged with grand theft and is being held on $10,000 bond.
The boat was stolen from the beach on Tuesday. The owner spotted Rasor driving it around the next day and notified marine deputies.
When authorities tried to stop Rasor, he roared off as a woman passenger waved at the officers.
Rasor outran the patrol boat, sometimes pulling into bays to wait for the officers, then speeding off.
“It was a very fast boat,” said Bonner County Sheriff Cpl. Larry Schulze.
After following the stolen craft for 45 minutes, Schulze said the driver beached it near Bayview and ran into the woods. The woman was still in the boat and was held for questioning.
Schulze said she claimed she was just out for a ride and didn’t know the driver. She later gave officers Rasor’s name.
