Readers Looking For Ancestral Information

Today’s column is another batch of reader queries from people searching their ancestors. If you can furnish answers for any of these folks, please write directly to them.

Nicole Cherry, 270 S. Holliston, Pasadena, CA 91106, is looking for information on and the descendants of George W. CRAWFORD and his wife, Frances, who migrated to Oregon and died there in the 1880s. Their son, Charles Crawford, married Lillie K. LOCKWOOD in LaCenter, Clark County, Wash. All their children were born in Washington: Arthur, Charles, Lloyd, Rexford, George, Elsie and Edith.

Vince Hall, 623 Westboro Drive, Nashville, TN 37029, is still seeking the mother who left him on the steps of St. Pauls Church in New York City on Nov. 20, 1935, when he was 3 months old. He firmly believes his mother was a young girl from Spokane.

Patricia Mersereau, 338 Avila Road, San Mateo, CA 94402-2852, (415) 341-3021, is looking for anyone with the name VAN VALKENBURG in their family tree to tell them about the family association, its 800-plus members and its annual reunion this month.

David Chandler, 5014 West L-4, Quartz Hill, CA 93536-4361, is searching for information of a white male CHANDLER child born Sept. 9, 1899, son of John J. Chandler of Washington state. He may have been placed in a relative’s home after the death of his mother in 1902 or ‘03, and possibly the death of his father in 1908.

Peggy Cunningham, 4503 N. Corrigan Road, Otis Orchards, WA 99027, would like to contact anyone whose ancestors lived in Moab - as Newman Lake was first called - or in the Thompson Creek area between 1880 and 1950 for a history she is writing. She would especially like to learn about the LARSON, RUSH, McGOVERN, BIETO and KUEHN families.

Eunice Aldrich, P.O. Box 642, Laverne, OK 73848, would like to exchange information with anyone knowing about William M. TOSH, who died Jan. 14, 1913, in Spokane, and his wife, Mary J. (WADSWORTH) Tosh. After William’s death, it is believed Mary married a Mr. GAINES and died in Washington. The Tosh children were Willie Odell, Aurilla Bell, Stella Mary, Cora May, Claude W. and Maude E., all born between 1872 and 1888.

Gary Tibbitts, P.O. Box 12, Aitkin, MN. 56431, (218) 927-6263, wants to contact any descendant of the DICK family to include them in the Tibbitts Reunion. Daniel Dick, a Civil War veteran, and his wife, Margaret Marian (TIBBITTS) are both buried in Creston, Lincoln County, Wash. She died in 1933 in Spokane. The Dick children were Julian Abraham, Mildred (who married Frank HENSE), Kenneth David, Harriet, Amy, Irma (who married George BANNEN), Omar, Ted, and Olive (who married Mr. McCAMEY and became parents of Margaret and Tom). These families lived throughout the Inland Northwest.

Jack Dean Guske, P.O. Box 654, Washtucna, WA 99371, seeks information on Thomas DEAN who was hired in London by the Hudson’s Bay Co. and worked at Fort Nisqually, Wash., from 1852 to 1857. In 1858, he moved with his sons, Thomas Aubrey and George Edmund Ryley Dean. Guske is also collecting information on the family of Heinrich Diedrich HAGEDORN, who lived in Pierce County and Toppenish, Wash. Christina Hagedorn married George Dean.

Judy Benish, 910 N. Prairie, Prairie du Chien, WI 53821, needs information on Jacob Franklin FRY who was listed in his brother’s 1931 obituary as Frank Fry of Washington state. He was not listed in his second brother’s obit in December 1936, so it is assumed he had died by then. His parents were John Fry and Maria ZUBER; his wife was Olive Amelia CHANDLER. Where did he live and die in Washington state? Did he have a family?

Marilyn Kucera, 626 E. F, Moscow, ID 83843, seeks descendants of Moses NEWBURN, who died between 1900 and 1910 in Spokane or Yakima County in Washington.

Nellie Tyer, 6900 Coffee Port Road, No. 602, Brownsville, TX 78521, wants to exchange information on Madison James and Mary SICKLER who lived in Walla Walla in 1859; Abraham and Jane CRULL, who lived in Walla Walla in 1862; Elmer and Elizabeth LUCE, who lived in Lewiston in the 1890s; and James and Alice Rebecca BONNALIE, who lived in Reubens, Idaho, in the early 1890s.

Pamela Lee Parker, 2330 Mississippi, Green River, WY 82935-6050, is searching for descendants of Elisbeth Emily WEBSTER who married Woodson MITCHELL about 1888. In the 1900 census they are listed in Grand Bluffs, Lincoln County, Wash., with children Leroy, Norton A., Hugh C., Neva I., and Maud E. Elisbeth Mitchell died about 1901 in Grand Bluffs or Odessa, Wash.

Dorothy M. Tice, 2045 Hogan, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814-8010, is seeking information on Christina BLOOMER, born in 1877, died in Ridgefield, Clark County, Wash., and married in January 1896 to Thomas Joseph WHITE. Their daughter, Doris, married Mr. DILLARD.

Jane Germann, 10209 N.E. 157th, Vancouver, WA 98682, seeks information on the family of George B. CHAPPELL, who died Aug. 27, 1945, in Spokane. His wife was Minnie (COLLEY) (EDWARDS) Chappell, who died at age 90 on Nov. 23, 1961, in Spokane. Her obituary listed children Charlotte Edwards of Spokane, and five Edwards sons, John of Spokane, Allan of Tulsa, Okla., David and Fred, both of Calgary, Alberta, and Al of Wenatchee.

Maxine R. Wagner, 7654 E. Main, Eau Claire WI, 49111-9664, wishes information on the family of the Rev. Paul L. and Mary Alice (WAGNER) KUNZMAN. In 1941, Paul and Mary lived in Vancouver, Wash. He died in 1955 and Mary Alice, in 1976, both in Astoria, Clatsop County, Ore. Their children were John, who m. Ruth A. MATSON; Jeanne Pauline and Doris Virginia b. between 1909 and 1921.

Patricia Burger, 303 Ardmore, Roseville, CA 95678, would like information on the family of Elbert MORGAN who married Martha Ann SMITH on Sept. 13 1883 in Colfax. Martha died in 1894 in Colfax. Their son, Harry Decatur Morgan, was born March 4, 1891.

Rita R. Peterson, Route 4, Box 72, Ponca City, OK 74601, is seeking information on J.L. JOHNSON (also known as Louis ARNOLD), believed to have lived in the Endicott area around 1905. She would also like a copy of the Colfax Gazette article on him that appeared on July 28, 1905.
