Hill Takes Hungarian Pole

Damon Hill took the pole for today’s Hungarian Grand Prix at Budapest, Hungary with a best time of 1 minute, 16.982 seconds, about 1.4 seconds faster than he managed in provisional qualifying a day earlier at the 2.466-mile Hungaroring circuit. His speed was 115.320 mph.

Butch Leitzinger drove the fastest lap in second-round qualifying for the Budweiser at the Glen NASCAR race and will start 21st in the 40-car field at Watkins Glen, N.Y., today. He turned a lap of 118.738 in afternoon qualifying.

Jacques Villeneuve held on to the pole position for today’s Miller Genuine Draft 200. Villeneuve had broken the track record Friday with a fast lap of 121.192 mph on the 13-turn, 2-mile Mid-Ohio road course.
