The Slice No More Calif.-Bashing

If you made a lot of money selling your old house or land to exCalifornians, please do us a favor.

Don’t complain about the problems created by the influx of transplants.

Frosted in August: “There is a house in my neighborhood that has pushed the neighborly spirit to the limit,” wrote a woman we’ll call Seething in Spokane. “Posted on the sidewalk in front (a sidewalk, that last time I checked, was public property), is a sign stating ‘No parking…Residents only,’ pertaining of course, to the street in front of that sidewalk which is also, if my memory serves me, public property.”

The No. 1 Spokane conversation killer: Saying “I disagree.” - Susan Weller, Cataldo, Idaho

Asking “What books have you read lately?” - G.A., Spokane

Turn it down, please: “I would like to know if others are as irritated with the music of the Rainbow Ice Cream Novelty vendors as I am,” wrote Rob Crumley. “The tune ‘Do Your Ears Hang Low’ is awful. They may as well play ‘Achy Breaky Heart.”’

Slice answers: We heard from business owners and employees - including a bartender named Dulci - who said, yes, a lot of people think nothing of banging on the door before opening time or after closing.

Road warriors: “I was driving alone on Highway 27, minding my own business, doing 55, when this guy behind me in an orange pickup with huge tires decided to ride my bumper,” wrote Valleyford’s Betty Cook. “He had plenty of chances to pass, but decided to harass me instead. After he did pass me in a nopassing zone he gave me the finger and then hit his brakes almost stopping in front of me, causing me to swerve to the side of the road.”

And Karen Mills of Airway Heights wrote “I spent six years in Germany, driving at speeds over 100 mph and I felt safer in the fast lanes there than in the fast lanes here.”

Today’s Slice question: What has to happen in order for WSU to win the PAC 10 and go to the Rose Bowl?
