New Morning Chuckles Arrive
Today we introduce two new strips to the comics page.
Us & Them, drawn by two cartoonists, one male and one female, features a new approach to the gender wars. Wiley Miller and Susan Dewar draw separate strips which appear on alternating days.
Miller’s strip features a recently divorced radio talk show host named Joe Pyle. He’s glib and self-assured on the air, but a bundle of male insecurities off the air. Dewar’s strip centers around a single mom named Janet George, who works at home as a tabloid newspaper columnist. She listens to Pyle’s talk show, and provides a female perspective to today’s issues.
A second comic, called Baby Blues, explores the lives of Wanda and Darryl MacPherson, ‘90s parents to toddler Zoe and new baby Hamish.
Baby Blues replaces Marvin on the comics page. Us & Them replaces Mallard Fillmore, which is moving to the editorial pages.
An in-depth look at the history of newspaper comics will appear in Sunday’s IN Life section.
