Walk-A-Thon Is Sure To Get Heart Pumping

Joe Ehrbar Correspondent

The Heart Institute of Spokane, along with a host of sponsors, will present “Climb Mount Spokane for Your Heart … A Walk-a-thon with an Altitude” on Sept. 9.

Not only will this walk benefit the participants, but also it raises funds for a Heart Institute pediatric research program.

In essence, “Climb” stresses the importance of health and exercise in a non-competitive fun-run atmosphere. During the 4-mile event from Selkirk Lodge to the Summit Vista House, walkers/climbers will ascend 1,500 feet.

“It’s much more than a walk,” said John White, chairman. “When you reach the summit, you’ve conquered a mountain, and that’s a tremendous psychological victory.”

Walkers are encouraged to raise pledges. Pre-registration is $5, or $6 on the day of the event.

For more information, call 625-3000.

Plan what you eat

The Heart Institute of Spokane is offering a 28-page “Food Plan” booklet to help people choose better nutritional and eating habits. Included is a list of 20 area restaurants that participate in the Heart Institute’s “Lite ‘n’ Hearty” program.
