Graf No. 1 For U.S. Open

Monica Seles is seeded second for the Aug. 28-Sep. 10 U.S. Open tennis championships behind three-time women’s champion Steffi Graf, while defending champion Andre Agassi was seeded No. 1 in the men’s singles.

Graf is seeded No. 1 for the eighth time, tying the all-time mark set by Helen Wills Moody and duplicated by Chris Evert.

Agassi is seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open for the first time. He is the first player since John Newcombe in 1967 to be seeded No. 1 after being unseeded the year before.

Pete Sampras, a two-time U.S. Open Champion, is seeded second.
