Qb Hisaw Named Starter In Idaho Season Opener
For starters, it’ll be Eric Hisaw.
New Idaho football coach Chris Tormey announced Hisaw will start Saturday’s season opener against Oregon State in Corvallis.
Hisaw, a senior who started half of last season before suffering a knee injury, was chosen over sophomore Brian Brennan.
“Eric played a little better in both of the scrimmages,” Tormey said. “That was probably the biggest issue.” Hisaw said regaining the starting job is “an awfully good feeling. It’s been a long road. But I feel all the work (rehabilitating the knee) has paid off.”
Tormey hasn’t ruled out playing Brennan in Saturday’s game. “We probably won’t decide that until the end of the week,” Tormey said.
Hisaw said he’s been rusty in fall drills, but he feels his timing is slowly returning. He said his knee is
completely recovered and has taken several hits during practice.
“I’m making good decisions, but my mechanics and accuracy aren’t where they need to be,” Hisaw said. “I know the last thing I can do now is relax with Brian behind me. I know he’ll keep pushing.”
Brennan, who replaced Hisaw after his injury last season, was hampered in practice by a sore arm earlier this week.
Hollis makes Jaguars
Mike Hollis, former University of Idaho kicker, beat out Scott Sisson for the starting kicking job with the NFL expansion Jaguars.
The two kickers rode to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium together and awaited the inevitable word of which one had made the team.”
Hollis, cut by San Diego in training camp last year, is not guaranteed a job when the season begins Sept. 3 against Houston. The Jaguars could still pick up a more established kicker once other teams make their roster moves.
College volleyball
The University of Idaho volleyball team began defense of its Big Sky Conference title with an exhibition match win a Vandal alumni team. The current Vandals, which were picked to defend their title by a poll of conference coaches, won all five games.
The University of Montana defeated a collection of Grizzlies alumni 3-2 at Dahlberg Arena.”
