Freeman Graduate Named President At WSU Sorority

Tanya Weitkamp, Spokane, is president of Sigma Tau of Kappa Delta at Washington State University, which received a Recognition Award as a top chapter during the group’s national convention in Phoenix.

Weitkamp is a graduate of Freeman High School and the daughter of Denny and Jo Weitkamp.

The Sigma Tau of Kappa Delta Housing Association at WSU received the Outstanding House Corporation Award at the convention.

Inland Northwest residents serving on the housing association board are Cindy Lyden, chairman, and Sue McFarlane, treasurer, both of Spokane, and Greta White, Endicott, Wash.

In other sorority news, April Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Miller, received the Burr, Patterson and Auld Graduate Fellowship.

Miller, a 1990 graduate of Mead High School, is studying for a graduate degree in engineering at WSU.

Sara Engle, a senior at Liberty High School in Spangle, was honored at the national leadership conference of Future Business Leaders of America in Orlando, Fla.

She received a ninth-place award in Business Procedures.

The following officers have been elected to the Dispute Resolution Center of the Spokane County Board of Directors: Kim Rasp, president, Lea Fransen, vice president, and Gary Sigler, treasurer.

New board members are Stan Moore, Janet Kiser-Lambarth and Judy Rigby.

The DRC provides mediation services for Spokane County District Court small claims referrals.

Ian Shaw, a Deer Park High School freshman, is one of 400 high school students nationwide participating in The Student Conservation Association’s High School Program in national and state parks, forests, and other land management areas.

Students help manage and preserve natural resources. Shaw is a volunteer at the Jim Creek National Outdoor Recreation Area on the western side of the Cascade Range.

The Washington State Patrol presented Awards of Merit to three people for saving the life of an accident victim on March 6. Honored were Dan Snowden, Ritzville, Wash., Debbie Cole, Warden, Wash., and Lewis Stuart, Otis Orchards. They helped resuscitate a woman involved in a serious injury roll-over collision.

Mark Miller, Spokane, received a diploma from the National Radio Institute of Washington D.C. for completing a master course in automotive servicing.

Joel Singer, son of Gary and Mary Singer, Spokane, is a member of the Stanford University bridge team which won the national Intercollegiate Bridge Championships. He is a 1989 graduate of Ferris High School and a National Merit Finalist.

Rick Blankenship, Spokane, received an honorable mention at the 29th-annual American Design Drafting Association’s national conference. He submitted a drawing in the technical illustration division of a sailing vessel showing a 3-dimensional hull design and section views. He is a recent graduate of ITT Technical Institute.
