Missing Boy Turns Up At Teacher’s House
The search for an autistic 11-year-old boy who ran away from a school near Sandpoint and disappeared into the woods Thursday ended when he arrived at the home of a teacher, authorities said.
Bonner County Search and Rescue teams were called to Northside School at 12:40 p.m. to look for Fred Delk Jr.
A Bonner County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman said a teacher called at 8 p.m. to report that Delk was fine.
Two tracking dogs from Bonner County, a team of bloodhounds from Spokane and about 30 deputies and volunteers combed the woods for five hours.
“He likes to wander off and thinks it’s a game,” said Bonner County Undersheriff Nick Krager.
Thursday was about the sixth time in seven months they’ve been called out to find the youth. Each search has cost the county a minimum of $2,000.
“The last few times we found him he was hiding in the bushes watching everybody search for him.” he said.
