Jittery Post Falls Beats East Valley With Solid Defense

Post Falls overcame poor shooting and other assorted season-opening jitters to knock off visiting East Valley 60-53 in a boys basketball game.
East Valley led 26-20 at halftime, but the Trojans took the lead in the third quarter and held off the Knights in the final period with solid defense.
Jeremy McLean led a balanched Trojans attack with 16 points.
Kyle Legrant led EV with 17.

The Wildcats may have started slow, but they ultimately served a painful loss on the Spartans in a season-opening game at the Silver Valley Tournament in Kellogg.
After leading by just three points after one quarter, Kellogg outscored Priest River 60-21 over the final three.
Kellogg, which was led by Casey Fisher’s 16 points and Tim Kohal’s 12, will meet rival Wallace in the championship game tonight. Darin Bradbury led Priest River with nine points.

The Miners enjoyed a torrid start and built a comfortable lead to handle the Tigers in a season-opening game at the Silver Valley Tournament.
Wallace will meet Kellogg in the championship game tonight.

The Bulldogs closed within one point midway through the fourth quarter, but the Buckaroos used a late 10-0 run to secure the season-opening game in the Bengal Shootout at Lewiston.
The Oregon team placed five players in double-figure scoring, led by 19 points from Corey Bowman.
T.J. Haguewood added 17.
In the nightcap, Lewiston defeated Bonners Ferry 58-42. No details were reported.
Sandpoint, which fell behind by as many as 18 points in the second quarter, cut Pendelton’s lead to 58-57 midway through the fourth period. They pulled within 62-60 before the Buckaroos opened the late lead.
Carson Jeffres, who hit 5 of 9 3-point shots, led Sandpoint with 22 points and Brandon Eller had 16, making 3 of 7 treys.

The host Trojans outscored the Knights 23-2 in the second quarter to open a lead they would never relinquish in the non-league game.
Post Falls guard Heidi Umthun scored a game-high 29 points as the Trojans improved to 5-0.
It was EV’s season opener.
Umthun made 9 of 18 shots from the field and 9 of 13 free throws. Janelle Ruen added 13 points for Post Falls. Star Olsen had 18 to lead EV.
