Post Falls Emt Dies

From Staff And Wire Reports

One of Post Falls’ most beloved emergency medical technicians died of cancer Friday.

Gerry L. Cooper, 36, was diagnosed with cancer in September, shortly after her husband’s second open-heart surgery. Well known for her generosity and hard work, Cooper was recently given the Harry Button Award for her exemplary service to the Post Falls Ambulance crew. Button was the ambulance company’s founder.

Cooper worked for Spokane Ambulance for 16 years and was office manager and EMT in Post Falls for the last three years. Her co-workers and the fire department auxiliary kept her paychecks coming even after she was bedridden.

Friends and co-workers cooked meals for the family, delivered firewood and wondered why such a wonderful family was struck by such difficulty. “We are like a family and it’s tough when it happens to one of your own,” said Pat Shuey, a Post Falls EMT.

Cooper is survived by her husband, Will, two sons and three stepsons, her parents and two sisters.
