The matchup in the middle couldn’t have lived up to the hype, and it didn’t. Massachusetts took the opportunity, though, to show it can play some pretty tough defense.

The third-ranked Minutemen held No. 10 Wake Forest to 19 points in the second half in a 60-46 victory Wednesday night in Amherst, Mass., in a game that featured a matchup of college basketball’s two best centers.

Neither big man, Marcus Camby of Massachusetts (4-0) nor Tim Duncan of the Demon Deacons (3-1), was able to generate much offense, but Camby was the clear winner in the individual matchup.

Donta Bright led the Minutemen with 22 points as they beat their third ranked team of the season and second in the top 10 after knocking off then-No. 1 Kentucky.

Camby finished with 17 points on 6-of-19 shooting with nine rebounds and three blocks. Duncan finished with nine points on 4-of-18 shooting with 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Duncan’s first field goal of the second half was 39 seconds in and brought Wake Forest within 30-29.
