Fund To Help Family Of Missing Firefighter
The Kootenai County Fire Department is starting a memorial fund for the family of a firefighter who is missing and presumed drowned.
Richard Brown, a lieutenant with the Kootenai County Fire Protection District, was duck hunting east of Sandpoint Wednesday with two other firefighters.
The three were crossing the Clark Fork River when their 12-foot boat capsized.
The other two hunters made it to shore. Officials believe Brown drowned when his hip waders filled with water.
After another day of searching Friday, scuba divers from Kootenai and Bonner counties were not able to find Brown’s body. They will resume their search Monday.
Those wanting to help Brown’s family can make donations to the Kootenai County Fire Protection District No. 1 Richard Brown Memorial Fund. Donations can be made to any Idaho branch of the Bank of America. Out-of-state donations can be mailed to the fire department at 1712 Golf Course Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.
