UI Produces Video On Small-Lot Logging

From Staff And Wire Reports

Many people want to sell a few trees from the back 40, but prefer selective harvest over a clearcut.

That’s not always the best strategy, according to a new University of Idaho video designed to help small landowners and loggers.

The video is called “I Want to Log ‘Selectively:’ A Practical Guide to Partial Timber Harvesting.” It identifies tree characteristics to consider when deciding how to log your land.

The 40-minute video also covers the importance of choosing tree species adapted to the site, identifying insect and disease problems, and the types of harvests that will help your wood lot.

People can check out the video from any Local UI extension office. It also can be purchased for $29.95 from the UI Ag Communications Center in Moscow.
