Want To Get In Shape By Party Time? Fat Chance
OK, our national diet starts tomorrow (Tuesday, maybe). But what if you want to shed a few ounces in time for tonight’s revelries?
Some stars offer the following tips in the current issue of Woman’s World magazine:
Christie Brinkley: Try a day-long liquid diet - pineapple/pear/apple juice for breakfast, beets/ celery/ginger for lunch and a thin broth for dinner.
Joan Lunden: Exercise in a heavy sweat shirt and plastic pants. “I know I’ll lose a lot of body fluid by sweating,” she says.
Vanna White: Work out twice as long. Before a big evening, says White: “I’ll do the treadmill and free weights for about 90 minutes to really burn calories.”
Too much trouble just to look a little thinner? Take Teri Hatcher’s advice: Wear black.
Loose talk
Brad Pitt, on what he sees when he looks in the mirror (in USA Today): “I say to myself, ‘You shoulda got more sleep last night. You should floss more.”’
Playing an American president was a bit tricky
Anthony Hopkins turns 58 today.
The starch is essential for a stiff upper lip
Princess Diana pays for her figure - a cool $1,215 a month on a thorough fitness regimen that includes a personal trainer, acupuncture and massages, according to Fitness magazine. Di also adheres to a special diet that discourages eating protein and starch in the same meal.
Her race against time is still nip and tuck
Dolly Parton, who prefers the plastic surgery route, told McCall’s magazine: “I don’t see the harm in making yourself look better when you’re in the public eye … I’m sure I look stupid or trashy to other people. Folks say to me, ‘Aren’t you getting too old to wear that kind of stuff?’ But this is who I am - all the paint and powder.”
She doesn’t put up with that kind of bull
Buxom bimbo Anna Nicole Smith, whose marriage to the late 90-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall was among the more tawdry of recent celebrity stories, has been named Texas Monthly magazine’s “Bum Steer of the Year.” Better watch out: Smith recently settled her $5 million lawsuit against New York magazine for putting her on the cover of its “White Trash Nation” issue.
Computer types go gaga over her baud
The aforementioned Teri Hatcher (“Lois & Clark”), who has a sexy new Marilyn Monroe-type picture available on America Online, remains the cyberspace pinup queen, with four different shots downloaded almost 90,000 times. Her closest competition: “Tool Time” lady Debbe Dunning (“Home Improvement”), at just over 13,000.
Once again, The King has them all licked
It’s official: Marilyn Monroe’s was the most popular postage stamp sold in 1995, at 46.3 million. But she’s still got quite a ways to go to catch up to Elvis Presley, with 124 million stamps sold since his debut in 1993.
