Cheney 53, Colville 38

Melissa Krogh had 15 rebounds and Erin Soliday added 12 as the third-ranked Blackhawks (7-0, 17-0) defeated the visiting Indians (3-4, 7-9) to clinch at least a tie for their first league title in 12 years.

Cheney has a three-game lead on Pullman with three league games remaining. Anna Getz had 10 assists for Cheney, which used its press to set up quick baskets.

The Blackhawks had a 45-30 rebounding edge.

Krissy Burt scored 21 of her 29 points in the second half, and joined teammate Crystal Poskey with nine rebounds as the Bantams (3-4, 5-12) defeated the visiting Knights (1-6, 4-12).

Burt had 13 of her points in the third quarter, when Clarkston broke EV’s press. Clarkston trailed 12-2 to start the game, but called timeout and turned around the game.

Poskey had eight of her nine assists in the second half, when the Bantams shot 15 of 18 from the free throw line. Star Olson scored 25 - the most for any EV player in a league game this year.

Abdul Odood of Cheney had five steals and four assists.

League scoring leader Matt Smith of Colville (24.7 ppg) was held to 16.

EV played without starters Josh Ostrander and Aaron Wilkinson (for disciplinary reasons) and Geoff McLachlan, who injured right ankle during Thursday’s practice.
