Riverside Wins, Ties For First

A-B girls

Alana Carlander scored 33, and Jill Thompson scored 11 consecutive points in the fourth quarter Friday as Riverside (12-2, 15-3) defeated visiting Colfax 71-58 to tie the Bulldogs for first place in the Northeast A League.

Tenth-ranked Colfax (12-2, 13-5) opened the fourth quarter with a 17-3 run to take a 51-47 lead. Thompson then made three consecutive 3-pointers and a jumper to spark the Rams. Riverside’s Erin Nelson and Thompson combined for 19 fourth-quarter points.

Carlander had 18 first-half points to forge a nine-point Rams lead, but Angie Hall scored seven in the third quarter to pull the Bulldogs within two.

At Nine Mile Falls, the Eagles (11-2, 14-3) moved within one-half game of the league lead as Lora Jolley had 20 points and nine steals in a win over the visiting Cougars (8-6, 10-8).

Lakeside had a 40-25 edge in rebounding, led by Stephanie Guenther’s nine. The Eagles held Chewelah to 16-of-59 shooting (27 percent) from the field.

Tricia Gest had 16 rebounds for Deer Park (4-10, 5-12), which forced 30 turnovers. Misty Stark had eight assists for the Scotties, who cut an 11-point lead to two points in the final 1:30.

At Wilbur, Jessica Martin scored 26 as the fourth-ranked Wildcats (11-1, 17-1) defeated the visiting Broncos (7-5, 11-8) to clinch the West Divison and a No.1 seed for the league tourney.

Martin and Holly Arden scored six apiece in the third quarter when W-C broke from a halftime tie. The Wildcats shot 23 of 43 (53 percent) from the floor. Ritzville, No. 3 from the West, will open the league tourney Friday against host Reardan.

Naamah Matthew had 11 points in the first half, and the Lancers held S-H scoreless in the first quarter. The Falcons shot 19 percent from the field. Liberty has clinched the East’s No. 3 seed to the league tourney and will open Friday against Almira/CouleeHartline.

Cherea Davis and Buffy Mann had six steals apiece for the Dragons, who have won the last five league tournaments. St. George’s held Jenni Wright (13.4 points per league game) to four.
