Stars & Stripes was a winner and a loser in a close day of racing in the America’s Cup trials.

Stars & Stripes, skippered by Dennis Conner, beat the all-women America3 crew by 28 seconds to keep its lead in the Citizen Cup for defenders. But Conner also lost the two points he earned in a win over America3 on Friday.

That’s because the second round-robin between the three defense syndicates was shortened from nine races to six because of weather delays, and the set of three races that was thrown out included Conner’s win on Friday.

Conner retained a 9-7 lead over Young America, with America3 holding third with three points.
