Supper Will Aid Romanian’s Visit
Members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane will have a Hungarian supper followed by Hungarian and Romanian folk dancing and a slide show from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in its new facilities, W4370 Fort George Wright Drive.
Four years ago, the Spokane church began a “partner relationship” with the Unitarian Church in Racosul de Sus, Romania, said Julie Jose, church spokesman.
When the farming village lost all its farm equipment after the 1989 revolution, the Spokane church raised money for a tractor, equipment and other needs.
“There is (still) a sense of hopelessness among many in the village,” Jose said.
The local congregation has invited the Romanian minister, Josef Kotecz, to visit Spokane in June so the two churches can experience an exchange of cultures and ideas, Jose said.
Sunday’s event is to raise money to pay for the minister’s trip.
Adult tickets are $5; children, $2; and families, $12.

Hungry teenagers
More than 130 young people from 10 Spokane-area churches will go without eating as part of the national 30-Hour Famine, sponsored by World Vision, an international Christian humanitarian organization.
The teenagers will enlist sponsors to contribute money for each hour they don’t eat, a spokesman said.
The students will fast from 1 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. next Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, W1523 Mallon.
“They will spend the night at the church, taking part in a memorial service in remembrance of the 35,000 children who die every day from hunger and hunger-related causes,” the spokesman said.
Participating youths are from Westminster Presbyterian, Cheney Community, Emmanuel Baptist, Salem Lutheran, Westminster House, New Life Assembly, Park Heights Baptist, Messiah Lutheran and Central Baptist churches.
Last year, more than 100,000 U.S. teens raised more than $1.3 million to fight hunger through World Vision projects.
Dedication recital
Calvary Lutheran Church, 10th and Compton streets in Post Falls, will dedicate its organ with a recital at 4 p.m. Sunday.
