Venuste Niyongabo of Burundi clocked the second-fastest indoor time ever in the 1,000 meters, missing Noureddine Morceli’s world record by only .36 seconds at the DN Games track and field meet in Stockholm, Sweden.

Niyongabo’s winning time was 2 minutes, 15.62 seconds. Morceli, who set the world record of 2:15.26 two years ago, was not entered. Britain’s Matthew Yates finished second at 2:18.26 and Kennedy Osei of Ghana was third at 2:19.38.

The Dallas Stars will not sign a lease for Reunion Arena because municipal leaders failed to live up to an agreement reached before the NHL team moved to Texas, the team president Jim Lites said.
