Soccer Violence Likely

Compiled From Wire Services

With drunken English fans already causing trouble in Belgium, Chelsea’s visit to Bruges today poses the possibility of another ugly chapter in soccer’s troubled season.

About 500 police officers will be on duty for the quarterfinal of the Cup Winners Cup. It is the first time English fans have traveled abroad since the riot in Dublin two weeks ago that forced the IrelandEngland game to be abandoned.

Monday, police expelled more than 170 English fans after a series of fights and disturbances in the port city of Ostend and Bruges.
