J. Michael Cannon Spokane

Vigil service for J. Michael Cannon was Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cannon, 59, died Sunday. Born in Glendale, Calif., he moved to Spokane 32 years ago.

He attended the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno. He attended Gonzaga Law School and received his Master of Social Work degree from the University of British Columbia.

For many years he worked as a social worker for Eastern State Hospital, Catholic Family Service, Interlake School and Community Mental Health.

Mr. Cannon was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and worked with Renewal, the Liturgy Committee and in the choir and music area. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert, the Knights of Columbus and Worldwide Marriage Encounter.

He was a member of A.C.T.S., National Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and Wild Rose Rambler Square Dance Club.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Jane L. Cannon, at the home; three sons, Richard M. Cannon of Seattle and Douglas Cannon and David Cannon, both of Spokane; three daughters, Teresa Droz, Katherine Cannon and Jennifer Cannon, all of Spokane; two brothers, Tony Cannon of Ventura, Calif., and Patrick Cannon of Newberry Park, Calif.; two sisters, Susan Dever of Cambria, Calif., and Kerry Carter of Tehachapi, Calif.; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Building Fund, E3720 Colbert Road, Colbert, WA 99005.

Dora Gilchrist Colfax, Wash.

Service for Dora A. Gilchrist will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Colfax First Baptist Church followed by burial at Colfax Cemetery.

Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gilchrist, 95, died Friday. She was born and raised in Genesee, Idaho, and graduated from Moscow High School. She graduated from Lewiston Normal School with a degree in education and taught at a country school in the Viola, Idaho, area.

She married DeMoine Gilchrist in 1919 and they made their home on a farm in the Genesee Valley.

The Gilchrists moved to a farm in the Union Flat area near Colfax in 1928, retiring in 1965.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, a charter member of Pine Grove Grange and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile.

Mr. Gilchrist died in 1971.

Her survivors include four children, DeMoine Wallace Gilchrist and Gerald Wayne Gilchrist, both of Colfax, Catherine Jean McCaffery of Ritzville, Wash., and Robert Baily Gilchrist of Lewiston,; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Colfax United Methodist Church Building Fund or the charity of one’s choice.

Elsie Allen Spokane

Service for Elsie C. Allen will be at 12:45 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Mrs. Allen, 95, died Dec. 16. Born in Crookston, Minn., she moved to Spokane many years ago.

She was a graduate of Winona State University in Minnesota and was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Spokane Valley Women’s Club.

Survivors include a son, Roy Allen of Seattle; a brother, Clarence Anderson; three grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

Trever Broehl Spokane

A potluck gathering of friends and family of Trever Broehl, 23, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Sandpoint Baptist Church.

Broehl, a quadriplegic, died Friday from exposure.

He graduated from Rogers High School in 1990 and was attending Spokane Community College.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Williams of Sandpoint; three sisters, Robin Everett of Spokane, Sheri Lawson of Sandpoint and Niki Perkins of Virginia; and his grandparents.

Annie (Mead) Mihm Spokane

Memorial service for Annie M. Mead Mihm will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1474 officiating. Cremation will precede the service.

Mrs. Mihm, 87, died Saturday. Born in Nova Scotia, she moved to Spokane more than 70 years ago.

She was a checker and cashier for the Liberty Market and Grocery.

Mrs. Mihm was a member of Eagles Aerie Auxiliary No. 2 and Hillyard Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 1474.

Her first husband, C.J. Mead, died in 1945. Her second husband, F.P. Mihm, died in 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Dalzell of Spokane; one nephew; seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

Edith Thompson Spokane

Service for Edith M. Thompson, a homemaker, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thompson, 93, died Saturday. Born in Marino, Colo., she moved to Spokane 40 years ago from Colville, Wash.

Her husband of 62 years, Burt Jesse Thompson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Davis and Bonnie Price, both of Spokane; eight grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity or organization of one’s choice.

Dr. Glenn Peterson Hayden Lake, Idaho

Memorial service for Dr. Glenn D. Peterson will be at 11 a.m. today at the Clark House in Hayden Lake. A service will also be at 11 a.m. Friday at Villa Serena in Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico.

Dr. Peterson, 73, died Thursday. He practiced denistry and had lived in Spokane for many years.

He most recently lived in Hayden Lake and Cabo San Lucas.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Peterson, at the home; four children, Steve Peterson of Cheney and Boyd Peterson, Bruce Peterson and Kristin Peterson, all of Spokane; and two stepchildren, Gregory Smith of Boise and Karla Smith of Spokane.

Donations may be made to the Morning Star Boys Ranch in Spokane.

Archie Furnish Kellogg

Service for Archie Burton Furnish, a lifetime Kellogg resident, is planned for 11 a.m. today the United Church of Kellogg followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg

Shoshone Funeral Home in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Furnish, 77, died Friday. He graduated from Kellogg High School and worked for Bunker Hill.

He served in the Merchant Marine and owned and operated Kellogg Plumbing and Heating for 40 years.

Mr. Furnish was a member of the Kellogg Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Furnish, at the home; three sons, Gary Rauenhorst of Emmett, Idaho, Rick Rauenhorst of Kellogg and Kevin Nolan of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Gerald; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials be given to the Heart Foundation or to the American Heart Association.

Carol Fritzsche Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Carol Jean Fritzsche is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Milner Lake Cemetery in Troy, Mont.

Mrs. Fritzsche, 43, died Sunday. Born in Libby, Mont., she attended schools in Troy, Omak and Newport, Wash., and Priest River, Idaho.

She worked on a Christmas tree farm and also worked as a bartender for the Opera House and for Tucker Taters.

She married James Fritzsche in 1985 and they made their home at Paradise Valley.

Survivors include her husband, at the home; two sons, David Erickson of Bonners Ferry and Don Fritzsche of Westmond, Idaho; her father, John Erickson of Troy; four brothers, John Erickson of Bonners Ferry, Randy Erickson of Libby, Mont., and Gary Erickson and Jerry Erickson, both of Troy; a sister, Dolly Russell of Moyie Springs, Idaho; and three grandchildren.

Leon Lieb Spokane

Vigil service for Leon L. Lieb, a lifetime Spokane resident, is planned for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church followed by burial at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Lieb, 86, died Friday. He served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in the Mediterranean Theater.

He worked for the railroad for a short time and then worked for the Postal Service for 40 years.

Mr. Lieb was a member of St. Paschal Catholic Church.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Lois Hunter of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a sister, Helen Lee of Spokane; three stepgrandchildren, six stepgreatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paschal’s School, E7404 Marietta, Spokane 99212.

Florence Ludington Spokane

Graveside service for Florence N. Ludington will be at 2 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park.

Ball and Dodd Funeral Home South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ludington, 99, died Sunday. She was born in Baraboo, Wis., where she attended high school.

She married Mearl A. Ludington in 1918 and they moved to Spokane in 1943.

Mrs. Ludington did domestic housework for several families in Spokane until 1980.

Mr. Ludington died in 1972.

Survivors include a son, Roy Ludington of Spokane; a daughter, Dolores Williams of Neosho, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Walter Wahl Lind, Wash.

Graveside service for Walter W. Wahl, a lifetime Lind resident, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lind Cemetery.

Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wahl, 77, died Monday. He graduated from Lind High School in 1937 and began working on the family farm with his parents. He soon bought his own land six miles north of Lind where he farmed. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Wahl was a member of the Lind Lions Club and was active in organizing the Lind Rodeo in his younger years.

Survivors include two brothers, Albert Wahl and Leonard Wahl, both of Lind; six sisters, Viola Miller of Edmonds, Wash., Jeanne Michel of Othello, Wash., Arlene Starring of Coulee City, Wash., Margie Freeleigh of Post Falls, and Esther Ferrier and Phyllis Stelzer, both of Lind; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Lind.

Jennie Douglas Coeur d’Alene

Service for Jennie M. Douglas, a homemaker, was Monday at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene and was followed by burial at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Douglas, 91, died Friday. She was born and raised in Kellogg and moved to Coeur d’Alene in the 1950s.

Her husband, Floyd Douglas, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three grandsons and two nephews.

Cecil ‘Ernest’ Myers Oldtown, Idaho

Memorial service for Cecil “Ernest” Myers is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Sherman and Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

Mr. Myers, 92, died Friday. Born in Mayhill, N.M., he farmed grain and beans in New Mexico.

He married Emma Elizabeth Bearden in 1929.

The Myers moved to Omak, Wash., in 1954 where he farmed and logged. He also worked as a campground manager for the Forest Service before retiring in 1969.

They moved to live with their son’s family in Oldtown in 1993.

Mr. Myers was a member of the Omak Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, at the home; two sons, Boone Myers of Cedar City, Utah, and Earl Myers of Oldtown; two daughters, Nyla Raab of Spokane and Ann Romine of Colville, Wash; a sister, Faye Wright of Hereford, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Nellie Ringwood Spokane

Vigil service for Nellie C. Ringwood, a lifetime resident of Sprague, Wash., is planned for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Ringwood, 95, died Sunday. She attended Dewey School near Lamont, Wash., and graduated from St. Joseph Academy at Sprague, Wash. She attended Blair Business College in Spokane and worked for the Farmer’s State Bank in Sprague.

She moved to Spokane seven years ago.

Mrs. Ringwood was a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Her husband, Harold Ringwood, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita Ringwood of Arlington, Va., and Dorine Tracy of Kirkland, Wash.; three sons, the Rev. Joseph Ringwood, S.J., and D. James Ringwood, both of Spokane, and Patrick Ringwood of Sprague; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mary Queen of Heaven Altar Society, E3423 Carlisle, Spokane 99207; the House of Charity, W9 Main, Spokane 99201; or to the charity of choice.

Donald Kimm Sisters, Ore.

Graveside service for Donald A. Kimm will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pine City (Wash.) Cemetery.

Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home of Bend, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kimm, 72, died Thursday of a heart attack. Born in Pine City, he served in the Army for more than 20 years.

He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1967.

Mr. Kimm was a member of the Nazarene Church in Buckley, Wash., and attended the Baptist Church in Sisters. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1949 in Enumclaw, Wash., and the Bend Eagles Aerie No. 2089.

He moved to Buckley many years ago and to Sisters in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Kimm, at the home; two daughters, Donna Jean Moyer of Sisters and Kimberly Mary Cosand of Buckley; five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Lee Proctor St. Maries

Service for Lee Proctor is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the YatesHodge Funeral Home in St. Maries, Idaho, followed by burial at 1:30 p.m. at the Pinecrest Cemetery in Deary, Idaho.

Mr. Proctor, 58, died Saturday. He was born and raised in Colfax, Wash., and moved with his parents to Avon, Idaho, in 1944. He graduated from Deary High School in 1953 and then served in the Army for four years. He returned to Deary after his discharge.

He married Dorothy Carmen in 1961. They divorced in 1978.

Mr. Proctor worked as a log scaler for Potlatch Corp. and Bennett Lumber Co. and then began working for Diamond International in 1969.

He married Jean Jones in 1978 and they moved to St. Maries in 1979.

Mr. Proctor continued to work for Diamond International until illness forced his retirement in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, at the home; a son, John Proctor of Spokane; three stepsons, Grey Hanson of Spokane, Dean Hanson of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Steve Hanson of Coeur d’Alene; a daughter, Linda Lee Wirch of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Barbara Hagen of Deary and Linda Jean Seubert of St. Maries; two brothers, Clifford Proctor of Deary and Les Proctor of Moscow, Idaho; three sisters, Helen McKinney of Ontario, Ore., and Mary Custin and Irene Lunceford, both of Deary; and 18 grandchildren.

Hans Clausen Spangle

Memorial service for Hans Clausen will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Private burial was at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Clausen, 90, died Dec. 20. Born in Germany, he immigrated in 1924 to the Spangle area, where he farmed.

His wife, Otillia “Tilly” Clausen, died in 1980.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Marie Erdmann of Port Orchard, Wash.; two sons, Arnold Clausen of Spangle and Robert Clausen of Bellevue, Wash.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
