Five Finalists For Benewah County Magistrate

From Staff Reports

Five attorneys have been named as finalists for Benewah County’s vacant magistrate position.

They are: Edward “Chris” Lockwood of Coeur d’Alene, Shoshone County Prosecutor Daniel McGee, Patrick R. McFadden of St. Maries and Janice D. Newell and R. Monte MacConnell, both of Boise.

A magistrate commission will interview the five Jan. 24, according to Judge Don Swanstrom. The new judge will be sworn in Feb. 17, replacing longtime Magistrate Judge Peter Hutchinson. He was narrowly voted out of office in November.

Magistrate courts typically handle misdemeanors, traffic infractions, juvenile justice, divorce cases, small claims and preliminary stages of felonies.
