Quit Smoking Forever With Program’s Help

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to stop smoking, the American Lung Association can help.

The association offers a “Quit Smoking Forever” program, including three audio tapes, a personal achievement support guide and wallet card, for $19.95.

“Freedom from Smoking” and “Freedom from Smoking for You and Your Family” guides are available for $7 each, while a “Quit Kit” information packet and “How to Help a Friend Quit Smoking” brochure are free.

On your own: “Who, Me Lonely?”, a free workshop on loneliness for singles of all ages sponsored by the Seekers singles group, is scheduled Friday at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church reception room, S318 Cedar.

Marilyn Underwood, a North Central High School counselor and motivational speaker, will discuss living through lonely times.

Blood bash: The Inland Northwest Blood Center celebrates its 50th anniversary Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Crescent Court Grand Ballroom downtown.

Battling breast cancer: Free and low-cost mammograms and Pap tests are available to women in need through the YWCA’s Encore Plus program, funded by Avon’s Breast Cancer Awareness Crusade.

The program is aimed at women over 40 years old who are unemployed, have no health insurance or have insurance with high deductibles that have not been met.

Exams also are provided to women with Medicare coverage in years where Medicare does not pay for the tests.

Health and Hanford: Three new publications on possible radiationrelated health effects are available free from the Hanford Health Information Network.

Topics include genetic effects and birth defects from radiation exposure, radiation’s effects on the immune system and potential health problems from radioactive material released into the air at Hanford.
